i dont blame you mate,im all for advancing your horizons,if i can get a job,i would buy a rovacom lite, but at the moment,im saving up towards some sort of diagnostic,by fixing other peoples cars, but praying i don,t need a trip to the dealer to use theres.

as for the bearmach one i came across it in lrm,but i still think it would cost a bit,as it isn,t locked to a model, just buy the different license keys for it,and build up.

Fair play Andy. If it's a straightforward mechanical job on a P38 that's great. Pain in the ass if it's just a simple message/light out job or knowing where the fault lies-you pay your money to find the reason then pay again to get it reset when it's fixed. Hang on in there you will soon have the dosh.

Well Guys, I have bit the bullet today and decided to buy the multi vehicle complete module which covers all variants of the P38, petrol & diesel and also the BECM direct access module which will enable me to unlock and reprogram BECM's.
I decided against getting the Disco, Freelander, L322 modules as I feel that just P38's are enough.

Hope to shortlyget hold of a second hand BECM and have it without the security info, which I can put in to suit when needed.:behindsofa:

cool,i was talking to a guy who owned a p38 a while ago,and he picked up a snap on diagnostic tool for £100 and reckoned he made a fortune, reading and resetting fault codes on a lot of land rovers including his own p38,uptill someone nicked it.i didn,t even know the snap on ones worked on them

Snap On console on it's own does not handle P38 software unless Blackbox or Autologic server and software is routed through it-bit like using a laptop.

to be honest i didn,t really understand most of what he was waffling about, but wether it was true or just crap i don,t know.

Hi i have the faultmate msv, it is locked to my car but i can add another 2 vehicles onto the removeable module (at an additional price per car ) but then another module can be purchased to add up to another 3 vehicles and so on. So as long as you keep having rovers or land rovers the main unit can be used just purchase a new licence. I must add though i have had mine since july 08 and its already paid for itself, its a great bit of kit and i would highly recommend it.
All the best
Mark

is this faultmate capable of re-sync ecu to becm ????

There is a code search option on the engine ecu where you can request the Gems or Bosch to look for a resynch. code from the BECM. If the BECM code is corrupt and locked (Usually is)..the BECM can only be unlocked and reprogrammed with the Rovacom Direct CPU software (SM035), which is a bit more complex than the standard BECM software module.

anyone selling a faultmate msv-2, i hear these are good value, anybody know anything about them ?????

Ive had mine about 8 months now and although I havnt used it in anger - I have spent more time playing than diagnosing - I have diagnosed a failed HEVAC sensor. ( not bad eh ? Had the car nearly a year and that is the only problem > )

The stand alone facility is nice allowing you to read and clear faults without a laptop. All in all a nice bit of kit and highly recommended.

That's a good point you don't see mentioned much in these discussions.

If you live in the UK (at least) there are any number of independents out there who can do the necessary on the diagnostics, and you can get quite a few sessions with them for the cost of even the SV Faulmate.

You also need to remember these diagnostic tools aren't plug and play, and even if they are working properly, can tell you a lot of useless info., if you don't know what it means, or what to do with it.

So, you have to be prepared to invest quite a bit of time in something like Faultmate, and when considering the value of that and the purchase price, might mean it's not worth it for you at all.

Something to think about.

Hi

A bit more info, instead of selling the Faultmate with the car fork out another 321 euros it will work on your next P38, or 754 euros for it to work on an L322.

Cheers

Adam
