Drivers side of the box just above the joint between the sump and the alloy body, theres all sorts of procedures to get the level spot on, but for diagnostic purposes just making sure you have oil in there should do.
Easiest to drop the rear sump guard off for access.
Also on drivers side check the cable to link arm pivot as they seize which stops the box fully engaging the gears and it sort of slips in and out losing drive etc.

it will rev further than 1200 its when you put in drive or reverse put your foot down to drive then it only does around 1200 revs

could it be down to a turbo being knackered ??
oil levels are fine

If it revs without load then doubt the turbo has anything to do with it.

I suspect it'll be something that puts it into limp mode, the special setting that you can use to get you off the motorway onto the hard shoulder.

plus 1 what @dieseldog69 has said ref the turbo, that kicks in around 2;000 revs

have u got any warnings on the display

so if whilst sitting in park engine will rev freely past 3-4000 revs , then u select drive and won’t go past 1400 revs

may i ask how did u check ur oil level please , what colour was the oil

as mentioned u really need this plugged in, another reason is to prevent possible further damage being done as the landy has systems set up to protect itself

assume all the brakes are free and not sticking

plus i know this sounds really stupid

u haven’t got it in low on the transfer box have u

Still wouldn't hold the revs back, I would be looking at getting the diagnostics on it, if @fireblade7 were to look on the Landy Zone International Rescue forum map he should be able to find someone localish who would have a scanner that could pop over for tea and buttie to plug it in and have a look for him.

oh well , was worth a thought, lol, guy the other week complained his was holding back and was found he had it in low gear ;):D

totally agree with the diagnostics , won’t get far without seeing what the codes are along with every time it’s driven more damage could be done

just interested when the op comes back in how the oil was checked and what colour

when in park start up it runs at tickover put your foot down and it climbs up 3500 ive not taken it above that
but you have to take it up steadily it wont rev right up to 3500 it slowly builds up to that
if you stick it in gear it will just trickle foreward or backwards but cant get above 1300ish while in gear
no slipping from gearbox its just like it shuts down
brakes are free and not sticking it was sat for 2 years and never moved till i got them
not checked the oil in box as was told all good

i will ask my mate the morra if he can bring hin computer up and plug in see if it can see anything
its mac tool or snap on not sure if will tell anything or not but will try
the last job done on this was the drivers side head cams injectors fuel lines
ect then it said turbo problem

hope this helps a bit better than i have tried to explain
regards

many thks, as it’s been sitting for 2 x years personally the first thing i would do it get all the old diesel out and clean the tank, blow all the fuel lines out and fit a new genuine fuel filter , old diesel could have water in it

also for all the oils to be changed , inc gearbox etc , just so u know it’s all new and done

along with going through everything , ie brakes inc the epb, antifreeze

hopefully that’s all been done but when u think a new engine is 5k it’s worth changing all the oils and filters

indeed will be interesting to see what the fault codes come up with

imagine a few faults like , egrs, map , turbo actuator arm stuck comes up

thks for the update and please let us know how u get on

well friend came today had it hooked up to his machine
no faults at all except the blow air heating but that sorted itself out
i checked the level in box all good there too
so i have another mate whoes comming after work with one that will read all
and see if it throws anything up but cant see it
i tried different gear low high different terrain box was changing up gears
in low gear going up a hill but when hill got to much just changed down gear then
would not climb anymore tried acouple times just same so think as said its in limp all the timev

Did you scan gearbox ecu for faults as I had a failed cv joint on front driveshaft that gave similar symptoms but through up a speed sensor fault in gearbox ecu.

ewell thats it sorted had the ma mates mate oot with his computer
it was throttle pedal not speaking to something anyway he said its got a air loss
any way he went away and i started to investigate
well it was the plastic pipe comming from air filter to another plastic pipe that was out
took 2 screws out jubilee at air box pushed it down to seal put it back together
runs drives great all changing up down no probs

so now have a 58/9 plate disco 3 for sale with all history ect
project for sale
