Hi All,
Longtime no post.
Advise needed please.
Extractor has not worked.
Hole drilled, followed by knock through! Not working.
Last option will be to weld nut on to bolt!
But after advice before that happens.
Thanks in advance.
Kev
As above, where is the broken bolt ?
Thanks.I would grind the head off & then if you have enough room drill out what's left, or once the bolt head is off open the strut enough to get it clear then drill or as said above remove the assy to drill on the bench, best of luck.
I will have fresh head in the morning! To look at what I can do.I would grind the head off & then if you have enough room drill out what's left, or once the bolt head is off open the strut enough to get it clear then drill or as said above remove the assy to drill on the bench, best of luck.
OuchMy first port of call would be an air chisel with the chisel bit cut off flush.
If you try and punch it out like a pansy what will happen is the end of the bolt will expand and get tighter in the hole.
Are you using 6 sided sockets?
Next size socket down can help a lot, obviously will need hammering on.
This was my seized bolt fun today, 20 of the friggin things.

Tried that today! From about 10 this morning, the top one was of after about 45 mins!I had a couple of seized strut bolts on my FL1 I spent hours spraying them with penetranting fluid then with the nut flush with the end of the bolts just hitting them backwards & forwards until eventually they started to move. I also (only) used a single hex impact socket (always try to avoid rounding fastners) on a breaker bar to add a bit of twist, still adding lots of p. fluid, I feel your pain.
Tried! FailedMapp gas.
Tried! Failed
Irwin things may work on that.
Welding an oversized nut (so you can get plenty of metal / heat down the hole) certainly will.
Its not so much the ability to give it extra grip, as the proper directed heat doing "somthing" to the bond.
Mapp is one level - mig is entirely another.
