lol thanks for the compliments guys! :) I aint got any good pics of my finger... I might snap some tomorrow (got another hospital visit due!) Anyways.....

SHE'S UP AND RUNNING!!! :tea:

So here's the latest pics! I didn't manage to get any of the welding this morning as I wasn't there to supervise (make tea) :)

The gap in the boot floor was bridged using an off-cut from the roof, the guys tacked it to the rear piece then hammered it to follow the ridges on the boot floor. Then the hammered end was welded to each ridge and troff, ground back then covered with sealant. All of the welds were sealed, some of them weren't ground back as we couldn't get the grinder in there (couldn't be bothered!)

The fuel tank is a work in progress... for the moment I'm using the original tank just strapped in the boot until I sort out the rear seats and I can take some measurements from the boot and see what I can fit in there. So, the fuel lines for the moment will just poke through:

The side panels have been filled with a bit of 18 gauge steel plate, they were cut to shape then a line of sealant was applied then they were drilled and riveted insitue:

Just realised I'm jumping the gun... the outer skins were attached BEFORE the old window holes were plated, we had to cut off about two more inches as I had intentionally cut them too long just in case!

So the outer panels were fitted overlapping the front sections, sealed and riveted, the bottom of the panels were trimmed to match the wheel arches:

The alpine window holes were plated the same way, they were riveted at the bottom then bent to follow the curve of the roof. We were going to weld the roof as it's steel, however we couldn't be arsed so it got sealed and riveted like the sides! Well you can't see it anyway! ;)

You can see the state of the bodywork so I'm really not bothered about the rivets :)

It looks a lot better with a quick lick of black primer:

The black looks gloss but its just cos it's still wet...

Boot door on! :)

Wink wink ;)

Next up is refitting the rear seats, trimming the plastic trim panels, refitting all that crap and giving it a lick of paint! Oh and sorting out a more permanent fuel tank and filler :) I can't wait to test it out on the rough stuff... just a shame I can't drive it for the next six weeks!
The moral of the story is... If you're gonna chop up your finger with an angle grinder, make sure you miss the tendons.. they're a bitch to repair!! :)

cracking job mate and in record time!

i have to say that i think bobtailed discos look hideos, but i think thats becuase i like the proportions of the full body so much, but if youre not arsed then it makes a good cheap off roader!

i barely have enough room in mine for a full weekend greenlaning so there'd be no chance in a bobtail, and also i can muhahahahaha that i can sleep in the back of mine whereas bobbies have to use tents :D

anyhoo nice work and yeah lets see that finger before we see the motor off road :)

Looks good! :) I always use tents or make-shift shelters when I'm camping, I always said I'd never cut mine down as I like the space but I still think eventually she'll go pickup that'll give plenty of load space. In the meantime I'm cutting down my full length roof rack and making it fit a bit tighter to the roof... Later maybe a Sankey project for the lil bobber ;)

WARNING!!! GORY DETAILS!!!

IMAG0462.jpg

So... had the stitches out today... all I can say is OUCH!! 12 stitches that had been in there for two and a half weeks came out really easily...

My mate planed the end of his finger off on a bench planer  he managed to grow it back but took pics every appointment, that was pretty gruesome... But the bob looks awesome n well worth it mate. I agree with Mr noisy, but I do like wlm's subtle mod

yeah as ive said already ive actually sat in the passenger seat of your car WLM whilst it was up north and i always loved the way it looked. You might say it's "just right".

whoever built it obviously was looking to make a great looker, ie tints, painted arches, big fat tyres etc.

the other side of it is the shorter the better in an off road sense :)

as above though still a nice job done so fair's fair.

regards that finger, yeah **** me i bet that looked a bit brown trousers after you pulled the grinder out of it. good effort chap!

cheers :)

My finger didn't look as bad at the time but the surgeons had the cut it back further to reattach the tendon, nerves and artery! :mil74: Thanks for all the compliments tho, much appreciated! However... I do agree it looks a bit long in the nose now... bull nose coming soon!!! :)

i agree someone even went to the extent of cutting and refitting the side windows .i love the way it looks but i dohave plans to do a few mods.
1st is to move the alloy tank from the bank to just up behind seats and then build some storage and shelf for spare wheel..

i originaly wanted to do a bob, but didnt think i would be able to achive a good finish on the joins and the lining up of pannels. also i want a roll cage.. so easyer to just trayback!

Hi all!! So I've been busy again....

Good old Satin Nato Green :hippie:

Gotta sort out another fuel tank next then I can put the interior back together... Once I've cut it about to fit that is! :)

How did u rejoin the roof?

I would guess that his is just welded and ground back, the roof is steel on the discos as is the inner frame of the vehicle. It's only the window surrounds and outer panels that are alloy and to be fair if you wanted a spotless job these could be tig welded anyway, a friend of mine riveted the sides then ground the rivets back and fillered the panel, looks good, until you 'brush' past a tree.. ;-)
