Just done another brim to brim mpg.

55litres again, 330 miles this time
330miles÷12gallon=27.5mpg o_O

No long runs this time, just town driving and a 2 mile blast on the motorway twice a day. Probably caning the juice just getting upto 55 for 2 miles :D

That's not bad for something with the aerodynamics of a block of flats! :p:D
 
Struggled to start this morning, cut out almost immediately twice and took good 10 seconds of cranking on the last go until it ran ok. Drove it and it ran fine, no misfires or hiccups under heavy load so I don't suspect fuel pump, although priming noise on ignition 2 was changing pitch.

Anyway, bit of oil in red plug. Got to get contact cleaner. There's quite a bit in the ECU socket as well so I'll be letting that drain tonight.

And dipstick level is slightly high, ive dripped some oil onto a paper towel but it just looks like oil to me. It's in the bin now or I'd upload pic. It was slightly high when I bought it but I put it down to overfill as its fresh oil.

So I'm thinking just do the injector seals, harness and service/oil change then see how we go. It's only 1 occasion it's struggled to start but it'll only get worse lol. Can't see it being just the oily red plug, surely I'd have seen rough running before it not starting? Exide battery as well, I know they're sh*t. Hmm......

Had another go at sticky wastegate, it was fine for a few weeks but started overboosting again after long high speed runs. Sorts itself out 5mins after coming off motorway, it's moving freely and the actuator arm can be moved by hand with a bit of grunt. Something else to keep eye on.

Fitted snow cowl and cubby net to make me feel better
 
Just treat it as annual maintenance my friend, a lot of peeps change the harness/seals annually.
Brake parts cleaner is the way to go on the plugs etc, may be worth popping out the ECU (undo bolts and prise lid off) if you have oil in there, again brake cleaner like mad, shake off worst then leave to air dry. The brake parts cleaner will evaporate leaving no residue.
Heard about others have using WD40 and making it worse etc, and does leave a residue etc.
How bad were the plugs? drenched or just a few drops?

Yeah it's inevitable and within my abilities but I'm a bit skint at the moment. Always the way ay it! Prob don't help buying a caravan yesterday...

I used electrical contact cleaner on the disco, I'll try the brake cleaner though bet it's cheaper lol

Plug and socket wor too bad, took ECU out to drain and it's made this much in 5 hours

You reckon take the ECU lid off then old pal?
 
best to be on safe side, a few little bolts and then some annoying adhesive, the case is this thin so expect to make a few marks when levering it off.
there was a vid on you tube of someone popping off the lid and cleaning out the oil etc
Thing is that cleaning the plug does not show whats got inside ecu, which is where the problem exists (top level switch failure code aka ECU is now a door stop) the oil whilst not conductive itself seems to cause a manner of headaches once it gets inside the ECU. So its a bit like cleanig the lid of a spilt bottle but leaving the rest on the table if you see what I mean.
i took myne off a while back, before I sent it to alive tuning to see if I had any dry joints or burn components etc, and although I had cleaned the plug there was some oil in there so brake parts cleaner to the rescue (euro carparts 99p for 500ml trade account or £1.82 for 500ml) see pics to see what I am getting at.
Once cleaned as long as you check the connector once a year and give it blast of BPC it should be fine, the issue is the rubber seals at the harness end, just crap design is all!

Sound @KISSMYAURA when I did the harness on my disco I just cleaned the plug but might be brave and open ECU this time. On the disco I also packed the back of the injector harness plug where the wires go in with RTV. Naughty i know cuz it's under the rocker cover but....
