Hello all,

Not knowing exactly how/if my N reg P38 V8 can react to different fuels, can anyone tell me if there is any benefit to using super as opposed to regular petrol? I know more modern engines can adjust themselves depending on the octane rating but I don't know about a 16yr old engine. Aside from the (astronomical) cost of course, would the more juicy stuff offer any benefits/down sides such as keeping things running a little longer or am I choking the poor thing to death?

I know certain fuels such as the Vpower Shell and BP have additional cleaners etc. That I understand. What I'm wondering is if my lovely, snarly P38 is able to adjust to the richer mix or whether it can't tell the difference. In which case it can have a tipple of the slightly cheaper stuff rather than swigging back the VSOP. Many thanks.

Pappy

A recent Which study concluded there was little advantage in running the premium stuff. Some people swear by it but it's never made any difference in my experience, and I reckon they're just finding it's helping cover some slight problem with the tune/mantainance of their engine. P38 should handle either fine tho.

best fuel any fuel apart from tescos mine drops 30 miles to the tank full on tescos!
don't use gas and mite not get a porus block which is a bonus

Is a 3.5 safe on LPG?

Tbh I don't really want to even think about converting. I'm happy as it is, and I like the fact that it was designed to run on good old cool reliable easy petrol. And the fact that I don't have to think of where to find space for a tank. And that it's nice and original and reliable etc etc.

The only thing is the thought of an offroad day costing 25 quid not 60 quid, and that when I run the car in the workshop it wouldn't near choke me to death within a few minutes.

What's the verdict please?

As a very low mileage user am I best just keeping it safe and simple?

Cheers :D

I suffered the porous block story and made the count.
Maybe running LPG didn't help BUT there's dozens on fuel only vehicles that had porous blocks AND there's dozens of LPG converted blocks that didn't cook.
At least, running on LPG helped me to save money.
Running on LPG during 80.000km payed me my brand new block.
