Even though the D2 is a better car than the Defender, its not for me. It just hasnt got that ability to modify like a Lego set that the Defender does which annoys me alot. It will do for now and I do like it, think I just miss my 110...
Had a big list of jobs to sort over xmas where the car can see for a week or so, managed very little in comparison to previous years, still got the major points done.
Been chasing a coolant leak I've had since Wales. Its been intermittent which has been odd for a coolant leak.. Which made me think it was one of the rubber hoses around the thermostat that was damaged/perished. So it would hold coolant when cold/used gently but long runs or hard use and the hose cant take the pressure. Leading to coolant pooling in the steering guard and dripping.
So decided to replace the lot, Gravity had a sale for a full set + top hose, managed to get it for £160, based of the design its the same as Knord, Roose and previous gen Allisport so should be fine in terms of quality. Only down side it was for a 10p not 15p so had to get a couple hoses from Ash but for £4 each non issue. Also replaced the thermostat again just incase. All bled up fine and left running for 2 hours, no drips so hopefully thats solved!
Also went about fitting the HD rear bumper from DMO. I really wish I could more positive about it but sadly I cant. Lukes a lovely guy and had a ****ing hard year so I forgive some of the issues, like parking sensor holes being too small and in the wrong place, meaning I had to cut and extend the loom. Not ideal.
Given that its 5mm steel all round, its fairly weighty but only secured with the two standard M12s but there are holes in the bumper to add two more. The sides are the issue to me, fine if its a pavement princess or a light green laner but if you where to catch the side hard it will heavily damage the rear 1/4 of the body. So that will need to be bolted to the chassis. Annoying as I've painted it so choice of weld it and respray it one day or bolt it and not worry about paint.
Also annoying that no thought has gone into where the rear wiring loom would run, which could have easily been incorporated.
Other than that, looks really good. The LED lights certainly and upgrade over stock.
Sorted out the gypsy side exit as well, went for a similar style my 110 had. Exit behind the rear wheel. Not 100% happy with the tip, I feel its a bit small but hey ho its what I had in the scrap bin!
The plan was to do a full 3" system inc over pipe but unfortunately the over pipe I bought doesnt have an extreme enough bend to clear the axle on full articulation so no good.
