Morning fellow leafers,
I'm restoring a 1974 88" 2.25p at the moment. I'm currently refitting the steering system, having rebuilt the steering box and painted up the steering tubes.
The truck - I suspect, although not certain - was axle suffix D. It was registered June 74, so a few months prior to what most sources say was the start of axle suffix E.
The longitudinal steering tube, as I expected, is not fully threaded at either end. It has an inch or two before the thread starts. It has one left hand thread, and one right hand thread. I therefore expect it needs 608464 and 320902.
The ball joints in the track rod were seized solid and couldn't be removed with fluid or heat, so I've bought a replacement. This was NRC132 - as fitted to suffix E onwards (all I could find available at the time), and so I've bought Lemforder RTC5867 and RTC5868 and fitted with no issue.
However, the drag link I was expecting not to be fully threaded, but it does have a thread all the way to the end. One is LHT, one is RHT. Would I be correct to say then that I need RTC5867 and RTC5868 for this too?
For the steering tube which is not fully threaded, how should the clamps be fitted, as per the workshop manual (1.6-3.2mm from end)?
I assume that providing the correct ball joints are installed, there is no problem with having a mixture of threaded and not fully threaded in the steering system?
