What if the leak from the vac is only partial and so it's not pressurising much? Do you think that's possible?

In all of the things I've tried I've got lost off. I've had the breather pipe in to a catch can lots of times to see if anything comes out. I don't think I've done the turbo air outlet on to the wing with the breather off though. This is what I'll have to do next I think.

Cheers, James. I'm wondering if I've got just enough leak on the vac, combined with the draw from the air intake, to be enough to push/pull oil out of the rocker cover. There has to be a tipping point where just enough vac pump leak causes oil to go through. My fingers are crossed anyway. :)

only one way to prove the point and so rule out or in a possibility
 
@Al2O3 , we're all looking forward to hearing what the resolve is for this - difficult fault finding can be immensely frustrating, sending us round in circles - but it's just a faulty component, good luck with the hunt.
Cheers, mate. The slight sniff of a possible cause has renewed my enthusiasm to keep on trying. Raining here though, so I'm not lying under the Landy in that. The sump and future testing will have to wait a while :(
 
Flushed by what will probably be futile enthusiasm I lay under the Landy in the rain. The water running off the bonnet on to my legs was unreal :rolleyes: Bit of oressurecwith the ball joint splitter and a quick Ed China tap with the hammer and the track rod joint, fortunately, popped off.

And yes @neilly the garage needs a tidy with stuff getting put back to where it belongs. The carb cleaner hasn't moved though ;)

While you've got it out, are you going to check it out for rust?
Mine was rusting through so had to be replaced, as I couldn't face taking it off and welding a plate over the bottom.:eek:
Never seen a sump do this before or since and it was on a car of which we are only the third owner, both others had it properly serviced an orl.

It's in very good condition to be honest, despite it's age. When I did the rebuild, about six years ago, it was cleaned down to bare metal on the outside and repainted. It had little rust on it, fortuitously!

Temperature reached a heady 9 degrees today, it was overcast with very light drizzle. Gorgeous summer's day up here, so no excuse for not getting the sump and block cleaned up and getting the sump back on. The added bonus of light drizzle up here is that it keeps the coal dust down - perfect!
So, all cleaned up with petrol and then brake cleaner. Sump back on, anti-roll bar back on, track rod end connected and little steering guard on the track rod fitted. Need to get some oil from the nearest motor factors tomorrow, then it's back to experimenting :rolleyes: :)

Nothing on the grey front either. :( It hasn't been to that feeder today, or around my traps which are about 80m away. I've got a camera on both set ups. It did have a look in the entrance to a trap two days ago. I think it's simple, I've got a few 10 second videos of it on the feeder, but it doesn't seem to know how to lift the lid. Can't find it's way in to a trap either :rolleyes: My PCP rifle is back at the suppliers, second return in the 8 months I've had it :mad: I've got an old BSA Lightning, which is perfect for dispatching them in the trap, but it's not the most accurate for getting a humane shot when squizzer is sat on a feeder. It might be a slow learner, but it'll work out how to walk in to a trap sooner or later ;)

I'm sure yours will be fine, but I think my next test will still be clutching at straws. The air inlet pipe, from the air filter, to the turbo is oily when you rub it with your finger. Looks to me to be standard fume deposits, over time, from the cyclone breather and pretty dry. I've a feeling it would be wetter, as it is inside the IC pipes on the other side of the turbo.
The Mrs is collecting the oil and filter on the way home, so I'll get that in tomorrow and try the wing test with the cyclone breather pipe removed. That'll prove, one way or the other, if there's oil coming through there when the draw of the turbo is on it. (fingers crossed emoji) @accynina

My 90 200 used to leave snot deposits in the air filter inlet trunking, tried an oil catch tank all that did was collect more grey gunk, routed pipe to atmosphere (under servo) and guess what? not a drop of oil/water/snot nada over 6/7 years later.
The 200 in the series is er well worn! and when hot after a motorway run it breaths like thomas the tank engine, again breather to atmosphere (down side of block) always oil mist evidence but no oil runs, and all the intercooler pipework is bone dry inside.
To the best of my knowledge both turbos are original (93 models).

Rare to change a turbo on the trucks at work, I bet the whole workshop between them might do 3 or 4 per year, that is 150 trucks doing at least 100k each per year.

I personally have had to change one turbo on my cars in 30 years of turbo diesels, and that was due to casing cracking.
