All joking aside.. I do think that it would look on a classic that almost aubergine purple in metallic would look good

I'm still going OEM Ardenes Green though !

Paint coming along looks like painting friday or saturday..

yes. he turns a lot of cars through the week so doing a whole car will tie up the spray booth for too long. he's done a number of cars for with excellent results. i really wouldnt use anyone who did **** work. it's tough to find a find a painter that doesn't charge the earth and does a really good job. And believe me I've had **** work while paying top dollar before i started using these guys. Generally they only do trade work so have a lot of cars turning through, hence big jobs can take time.

Interested to see it painted, i have a very good chap up here with a proper booth and he wants around £2500 + vat to paint mine.

£2500  I'm doing mine myself. With a little help from my friend who is JLR trained and did any repairs on the Range Rover and Discovery's before they left the factory. But I'm not looking for showroom finish as mine will be used mainly in ALRC Trials.

you can save a;
loy by doing the prep oneself...thats where the labour is..it takes hourssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!

though the paint on mine cost over £500 just for the materials..so if paying a proper painter with shop and oven then one can see why so expensive..

we (peter the works painter) and i did mine..i did the prep but it still took us 12 hrs + to paint it..base coat 1..3 coats, then 3 coats of mica red then the 2 coats of black on pillars then the 3 coats of laquar..with the required masking, unmasking etc...

one can see where the cost is..

yes indeed, i removed all the lights, door cards, sill finishers, bumpers, anything attached to the body, its all in good shape just needs cleaning, GV sand blasted the bumpers and light guards, i dropped the car off ready to prepped.

the thing is with paint, its the prep that determines the finish (as well as the capability of the painter) so wanted to make sure they had good areas to work with to get a good finish.

they've spent a lot of time flushing off any dings and panel imperfections that have occurred over 25 years !

There are paint jobs and paint jobs

£2500 for the job done start to finish is expensive compared to some and cheap compared to others

£3000 once you've added the good old vat

Yes there are.

Though in the past i have experienced shocking work and paid full whack.. one of the Porsches needed a bonneet respray (stone chip and bird **** right on the chip caused the lacquer to lift) was recommended a really good painter who used to 'paint porsches' three weeks and **** job later.. i think the recommender meant he used to paint 'porches' dull lacquer bad prep so you can see flatting marks in the paint. it will be redone after winter with the rest of the road rash.

Cost doesnt always equate with a good paint.. yes, as zen said there is a lot of work that goes into it, but a bad painter can give a poor result no matter how good the prep.

You could pay 7 grand for a respray, but it doesn't mean that the final finish will be any different from a 2 grand one.

the painter i use is good, very.. and i've used him before on a 928, 986, MX5 all with excellent results and i mean excellent.. and i'm a fussy git!

Picked up the Classic form paint yesterday, spent today putting the bits back on and the headlining back in.

The paint is awesome, it looks like new !!

I'll take some proper pictures tomorrow possibly, but here's some on taken on my phone at dusk
