Hi Guys...I see from the handbook that the interior lamp(s) have a low level ambient lighting function which is controlled by the panel illumination rheostat. I have tried to activate them without success-the mention in the handbook is very vague. The car is a TDV6, HSE, 2008 model.
Have any of you managed to use it ?

Maybe you misunderstood something...can you quote that paragraph which made you think that the rheostat can affect the courtesy lamps please? and what are you trying to "activate"?

Page 92 of the Drivers Handbook reads as follows....

"Low-level night-time illumination.
When the main lighting switch turned to side lamps or headlamps, LED's in the front interior lamps provides very low level illumination. The level of illumination can be adjusted using the instrument pack illumination dimmer switch.
Low level lighting provides very limited illumination for the interior of the vehicle whilst the vehicle is being driven, without affecting the driver's night vision. "

I can see no reference in the section on page 92 (Interior lamps) as to how the feature is enabled or disabled.

IMO that's not something to be disabled or enabled from software but it refers to the front interior lamp manual switching while headlamps are on, it should be there by default ...so if you turn on manually the front courtesy lamp while driving with headlamps on it will be at low level and react to the dimmer switch

On the Disco 4 there is a small square hole at the front edge of the courtesy light panel. In it there is a White LED which shines down onto the centre console and can be dimmed with the panel light dimmer. Maybe yours has this too?

Hi Yorkie...have just this minute read your post. I do not recollect seeing the small hole you refer to but when it stops raining I will go and have a look.
Strange that they have referred to it in the handbook and with the car being the HSE spec. I would have expected it to be fitted.
Can any of you Disco 3 owners have a quick look and post your findings.
Cheers Lads & Lassies

Thanks Guys
Yes it is there, looks about as much use as an ashtray on a motor bike :D
Tried it with the headlamps & sidelamps on but it's not working. Checked for voltage and it's getting to the LED so I assume it has died. Will try and find a replacement LED from RS Components or Farnell. No rush, it can wait until better weather. I have to fit and try the replacement mirror/seat memory module first-the one I got a few weeks ago (Brand new LR part) was faulty and the new one arrived yesterday.
