hi started my rangerover 1995 today and had a alternator fault on display on dash any ideas of what this fault could be

battery does drain a bit but never flat this has only happend twice

Bad connection from the alternator D+ to the BECM, or the alternator is not charging reliably which would indicate brushes worn.

I have an intermittent alternator message coming up on one of the rr's I have just bought and the battery appears to be draining. The previous owner has fitted a new alternator and 2 new batteries.I haven't investigated it yet will be doing so shortly and will post what i find

I don't want to send you round in circles but the alternator fault message seems to be one of the messages that you're liable to get when the battery is a bit run down.

By all means get your alternator checked but don't be totally surprised if you don't find a fault. Meanwhile, if you can, charge the battery with a battery charger and see if the message disappears.

I went though 3 new Alt last week all giving that fault till the last one was ok

engine bay fuse box? Mine used to flash an alt fault when i opened the door!! Replaced said fuse box and never did it again!
