That's true but my point is the front suspension articulates better with the engine over it but in a comp motor the weight needs to be further back.
My props are 30" long up front and 28" long out back :p
 
Both wings done :banana: so all the big composite panels are done and I can get back to metal work. If you ever consider making your own panels from scratch just think how much work it will be and times by 10

 
I went up to the CCV at Eckington on Sat so no work done in the workshop. Sun was lots of other little jobs that needed doing but I have managed to get back in the shop today.
I clamped a Defender spat on the front wing, I knew that it wouldn't cover the tire just wanted to see how far off they are, you would defo be sprayed with sh1t which ain't nice on a cold wet day or a sunny day for that matter, but then wider spats are a disadvantage when trialing but I think it is too wide anyway to be a top trialer.
I made some hinges for the engine cover and tacked them on, then started on the cover which is a slow process. I have part shaped the back panel and have just stopped for a brew.




 
Hi all, I have shaped the back pannel and folded up the top and sides, it is now ready for welding. I have also made some strengthening ribs as it was a tad floppy, once welded I will tidy it up and paint it black.



 
HI, Guys, I haven't posted for a while because I have been tidying up bits and bobs and not much to see. Also busy at work with the new reg.
I have been off this week and done the rear inner arches and spats and must say I am pleased with the result, Also the front wings are mounted which were a bit fiddley getting the brackets in the correct position.







 
A thing of beauty......excellent workmanship and I'm sure I can speak for all in looking forward to seeing it being used in anger soon....
 
Looking good now almost a shame to actually use it lol...can I ask how your fastening g harnesses to the role cage cos I can't find a clear part in msa guidelines...can I weld tabs to roll cage for.it or does it need a bar fitting etc.
 
you can either use tube horizontal in the main hoop harness loops through pipe, use some channel and eye bolts behind rear hoop (messy and looks dreadful but passes msa) or weld on plates must be a minimum size I think and the plate must wrap around the rear stays so the weld is only stopping the movement of the plate up the stay and the weight is taken by the wrapping around the stay. Its a job I'm putting off I have to makeup a couple of but will need to get the plates hot and bend them around some scrap pipe. Its pretty clear in the blue book I thought (its been a while since I've read it properly)

Yep this is fine ive just gotta get mine through the rear of the cab without loosing all the windows in the back :/

A D44 harness mount would be nice but ££££
 
PITA is a truck cab dependant on how wide your shoulders are depends if you have to mess about with modifying the corner window or not. or make up similar design to D44

Yeah my holes require window cutting :(

No your life and passengers life relies completely on weld quality and thus isn't allowed


The first type where it passes through the pipe is ok you can get channel running behind the rear hoop and drill holes for seatbelt eyelets they allow this as the u Chanel is full widgh and is held back behind the main hoop welding that in place again is just to keep it moving. A lot of the regs are for the avoidance if doubt and a mechanical fix using welds to support and not solely relied upon especially seat belts.

Depends really as I will have harnesses fitted but 99% time not use them just a lap belt. For speed events then a full harness I thnk 4 point minimum (Doh brought 3 point last near new in bag) would think only Natonals comp and maybe a few inter club comp safari or time trial i would use a full harness. Trialling ccv would be a simple lap belt.

The MSA have changed the regs on harness bars, consequently I have to cut mine out and redo them.
The new reg call for 38mm x 2.5mm or 40mm x 2mm cds tube min.
personally I think that wrapping the belt around the tube is best, if you can't undo your belt to do that then you can weld inserts into the harness bar as per drawing No. 44 section "K" in the blue book.
As Jai says the channel option is butt ugly. The bracket on the rear stays option has to be 4" wide and made from 6mm plate, you will need to heat it and shape it around the tube. I don.t like this option because shoulder belts are best as short as possible, this is because in heavy impacts belts stretch and the longer they are the more they can stretch.

Well today I have fitted one of the front spats and trimed it to shape, so that it for this week as I'm having a day with the Mrs Sunday and back to work next week.
