Reading all this with interest. I bought mine from there. Came with a years MOT. Must have been a 'mates' MOT as it should have failed on a few things. Perhaps I was a little naive with Land Rovers back then.

I sorted the issues myself and didn't take it back but I really should have done.....seized brake cylinders, completely knackered wheel bearing, no number plate light ...more minor issues which were still Mot failures - these were all immediately apparent when I was driving home just after purchase. I foolishly didn't notice them when I test drove it.
Good luck getting yours sorted

I finally sorted it after threatening legal action! Yes the mot is a mates mot! Mine should have failed! The rear brake pads were nearly gone! Various other bits too I've done it myself! Oh and the warranty is worth jack sh*t that they supply be warned! Stay clear!

I bought a 90 from them a couple if months ago. They offered to service it, do a come of jobs and an MOT if I paid the full price, which I did. They then did only the work for the MOT, washed it, and forgot to send the V5 to Swansea. I should be singing their praises, as it's a good wagon, and they put on a set of new tyres, but their poor customer service (and costing me and extra unnecessary £25 for the new V5) means that I'm with everybody else on this thread. I guess they've never heard of the old sales maxim - if you're happy, you tell a few people, but if you're unhappy, you tell everybody.

If they weren't selling a product that sells itself, they'd be toast.

A father and two sons have been ordered to pay £3,700 after admitting mis-selling used cars.

Charles Wenman Snr, Charles Wenman Jnr and Mark Wenman falsely advertised second-hand cars as being covered by a 12-month warranty from a warranty company.

The trio, who run Cranleigh-based dealership Walton Motors, were sentenced by Redhill magistrates following an investigation by Surrey County Council’s trading standards officers.

Thought the name rang bells looked at a motor when they were in Walton on thames wasn't impressed glad I walked away.

Just seen this. Great to see Walton Motors and the Wenman Brothers getting a bit of what they deserve. They sold me a right heap of junk and were an absolute nightmare to deal with in trying to sort it out. I would avoid them like the plague .

I bought a 110 csw from them years ago - around '96 I think - when they were still in Walton, when I drove it home I thought how the eff did this get a new mot, but it was the only place that had the truck I wanted within my budget so I put up with it, had it mot'd the following year by steve parkers as my folks used to live near his shop. a lot needed doing and for the miles I had done there is no way it should have got an mot the previous year. you certainly noticed the difference when I drove it away from parkers

wouldn't buy from Walton again

This is an unfortunate eye opener - I nearly bought a Defender 90 300 CSW from them a few months back. They seem to stock some really nice vehicles but unfortunately too many bad reviews so I passed on it. I think they buy from auction and flog at the highest price they can without servicing the vehicles - just a cosmetic gloss and patch up and it's got a fresh 'MOT' and ready to sell!

Chances are the warranty company won't cover any claims in the first 3 or 6 months because it's the dealers responsibility which could be why they are trying to mug you off.

Tell them (in writing) they have 7 days to either sort out the problem or agree a timetable for the repairs, including a courtesy vehicle while yours is repaired or you will reject the vehicle under the Sale of Goods Act. This should concentrate their minds a bit.

Forget the warranty company, your claim is with the dealer. The warranty is more for his benefit than yours.
This is the way to go.

To follow up from earlier, a real shame as looking at their current portfolio they have some really nice machines, good specs, and some of them sound like they've been well maintained e.g. Galvanised chassis etc. Just nervous to let my 'I should buy another one' instinct get involved!

Ben, I thought I was buying one of those good ones when I bought from them - I wasn't and the "MoT issue" various people have noted was also my experience. I had mine inspected a few months after buying because it was clear things weren't right and Walton Motors were less than keen to sort them out (yes, I know, wrong way round' should have had it inspected before buying from them - I fell for the "family business" and "land rover specialists"...) and guess what, it was a clear MoT failure. My advice for what it's worth and based on my direct experience is steer well clear!

No experience of them but seems they have a "friendly" MOT man - letter to VOSA is in order methinks.......................

Mine was MOT'd from the Ford franchise dealer down the road from them. You would have expected a proper MOT for such a proper 3rd party but it sadly wasn't. Don't know if they still do the MOT's for Walton Motors.

You would hope so........................... but it still comes down to the bloke actually doing the tests - so the "friendly" guy.............................. main office wouldn't have a clue
