Always check mine if the wheels have been off after 50 to 100 miles. Then roughly every two weeks. To be fair they have only ever needed a slight tweak up once after having been off and then usually only two or three out of the five. ;)

BUT

Caravan wheels get checked before every trip and I've found that regular as clockwork every third trip the kerb side wheel nuts have needed tightening :eek: :eek:


To them that have no torque wrench, get one, learn how to use it ;)

Elderly friend of mine is old school (bless) relies on feel to torque is wheel nuts...... He lost a wheel on his trailer tent recently.

He learnt the hard way, yes when he was young and fit he could probably torque a wheel nut by feel and be spot on ish but now he doesn't have the same strength.................... :(
 
On the green series 2a the ex had, it had been given 4 new tyres and of those 4

The rear drives had two finger tight, front drivers had all tight, front passenger two tight but not nipped and rear passenger one finger tight

I didn't point that out to her mum who'd driven it home to gloucester from oxford :rolleyes: definitely something that should have been checked out though!

50% of the people driving these days wouldn't even know how to do it. Never once in 35 years driving has ANY tyre place suggested I should do that.

You pay for a service and it should be done right, if its not its the fault of the garage

They put it on the receipt. I think its more of a legal get out clause. Ive done retorque checks and never needed to. Although ive got fire extinguishers ive not used too...
