At some point today, the order from lr direct arrived.
So when I got home from work I had a quick 10 minutes loosely bolting the disc to hub, hub on, caliper on and pads in.
Just wanted to make sure they was all correct.
Why, well I ended up buying vented and was hoping they was all matching parts. Which they all are thankfully :)
Reason for vented? I priced both up, discs/pads and calipers, vented actually came out cheaper by a couple of quid, so it seemed a no brainer to me to fit the vented.
Good decision, bad decision, who knows, I have been wrong plenty of times before..

Them discs are handed arnt they?
 
Looks like the right way round to me. You want the grooves to be throwing stuff out as the car goes forward rather than pulling stuff in. So as to help get rid of water and debris quickly.

I love a parcel from LR Direct. It's like Christmas.
 
Aaron, you are a legend! Slow down n give the rest of us chance to catch up. I reckon this will be done before Ive even finished painting mine. I'm not jealous though. Not one bit:rolleyes:
 
Well another bit of an update, rest of my bits arrived, new bolts etc..
Painted the calipers one night in the week, although I did debate whether to leave them as they was, but knew I would kick myself as soon as they start looking a bit tatty.
So Saturday was spent building the rest of the axle up.







The other job for the day was to finish painting the pedal boxes, thinned the paint a little, bigger nozzle'd gun and it went on lovely :)
Re-assembled them and then back in the shed for a few months until they are needed again.











Sunday, I didn't do a lot really, I pressed a couple of bushes into the radius arms and panhard rod, and made the axle end bushes work.
But other than that.. I was roped into some house related stuff, removing/rubbing down doors for paint, bit of filling/plastering, fixing curtain poles and other general shit'e.
Why, well their are plans afoot about possibly trying to sell the house, so yes George and co, you may just get your wish yet :rolleyes:

Aaron. Great progress as usual. I'd just decided on that colour myself after 9 months of pondering so it's back to the drawing board for me.

So, where was I.. no update for a while, although not a lot has happened.
Still need a donor, been looking and proving more difficult than I thought, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
So until I get one I don't have a massive amount to do, well I do, but not in the order I want to do it in or things that aren't needed for another 6 months.
So what I did last weekend was spend a couple of hours stripping the bulkhead down.
First impressions, it needs a pair of footwells and the top rail is full of filler :rolleyes: I 'kin hate bodging c*nts :mad:

Hopefully their isn't too much other shit'e hiding once blasted, but I am not holding my breath.





Yesterday I started sorting out a pile of bits needed for shot blasting, now the last time I did this I vowed never to use another shot blaster again because they all took the piss, and told myself I would buy all the stuff and do it myself, but, buying a compressor big enough to run it is bloody expensive, and that is money I just don't have right now.
The cheapest option for me to do it would be to buy a diesel road compressor, but, well.. as you can imagine, that wouldn't go down too well :oops::eek:
So I have one more person to try.

Their is quite a bit of stuff to have done and then sent for galvanising, but nowhere near as much as last time.
Tailgate inner removed, tailgate it's self isn't the best, but if I buy another it is easy enough to swap the inner bit over once galvanised.



Removed battery box, needs a repair to the vent do-dah, but other than that it doesn't look too bad, but we'll see.





Found the old bonnet out, and removed the skin.





10 minutes later they parted company, bonnet is a dented, battered old thing only really fit for the scrap bin, so hopefully I can find a reasonable one between now and needing one in about 8 months time.



Other than that just usual stuff, inner wings, cappings, inner cills, rad frame, slam panel, a pair of rock sliders and a tub full of general little brackets.

 
Where are going for blasting/galv?

Blasting just someone locally. Hopefully a better experience than last time which took months.
The galv, likely Joseph Ash Derbyshire way out, I used Worksop galvanising last time, who lost my rear door and a couple of other little bits, so I wasn't best pleased.
Unless you have any other recommendations bud? I am open to suggestions to get a good job done.
 
My blaster is a fella called Carl who runs Kilburn sandblasting but he's right down in heanor, Derbyshire. Timings are sketchy but done within 2 weeks. I used Frank Hand galvanisers in Nottingham but not cheap.
 
Hi aaron, I'd like to ask a favour of you, I'm going to make my own tailgate because I'm sick of looking at them on eBay and them being expensive, rusty, dented etc. But my problem is, I havent a clue where to start because my current back door is all over the place and the aperture is nowhere near square (yet). Is there any chance you could take any measurements of the one you have?

I could live with 2 weeks, last time it took 10 weeks for my stuff..
And how cheap is not cheap for the galvanisers bud? Some of the stuff I had done came out a bit rough looking, but as I was painting it, it didn't matter too much, but would be nice to have a good smooth(ish) finish for some parts like the cappings etc..

Yes I can do that for you no bother, by tailgate you mean the drop down type yes?
If you tell me what you will need I will grab them tomorrow night after work for you, height, width, depth I guess but anything else?
Sure you could make something much more substantial than the original out of some 3/4" box section or the like, I was surprised at how flimsy mine was yesterday.

Yes I'm going to have an upper and a lower, like a Range Rover, for getting long stuff in and sitting on with a flask. No rush for the measurements bud, whenever you are working on it will do. At the min I just think height, width, thickness of frame and frame + skin. thanks in advance:):):)

Cheers bud :) I do from time to time, more so this year than ever actually, doing the patio, paths, and more paved area's for all my shit'e, and again even more so over the last few weeks as we are putting the house up for sale and needed a general clean/tart up.
Oh, apart from the cooking meals that is, if it was left to me I would probably live on something like cheese on toast :oops:

Ah I was thinking you must be going that route, mine is, or was side opening, the sitting on it with a flask was my thinking aswell to changing it back to fold down when I build it back up, even if it is less practical.
Will grab the measurements when I get a mo,
And thanks for the info on the galv, definitely not cheap as you said, but it looks like they did a good job, your blasting was quite cheap though.
When I had my stuff galvanised I paid £288 for this.
But about £350-400 in shot blasting.
