Bloody amazing as ever!!!

I'm popping down that way in a couple of weeks matey so will pop in to say hello if you're around. I might even quiz you about how you about tackling a transfer box. :) keep up the good work matey.

Does look nice Aaron, doing sum more galving for ya tonight mate. Should have all yer bits done by the weekend.
So does it mean yer beasty is sorted ? Get her not sorted and we,all do some lanes cocker.

Im looking forward to seeing/hearing a vid of the thing being driven.

You're not the only one :(

That T-box looks proper shiny shiny Aaron!

Mine's still sat in the shed in bits, been there months. Need to get it sorted this week because the Disco is getting a new chassis in 2 weeks time so it's going in.

Have paid someone else to do it though, no time or space to do it myself - bloody awkward to get the body off....

I'll shoot over for a visit when it's done.

Ah, I was wondering if you had got yours finished.
Don't blame you for paying someone else to do it, can't imagine it'd be easy on your own in yer front garden.
Have you bought a new chassis or second hand and got it galvanized?

Cheers mate :) Give me a shout closer to the time and I'll try and be about.

yep, it's sorted now, just need to take it for an MOT when I get the time, then we're all go.
Oh and cheers, good progress with the bits then

Cracking work, mate. Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to a brief video of the maiden voyage. I'm hoping my panels will be ready at the painters this weekend. :bounce:

Crikey! Big expense then  Was their much lead time to get one made?
Mind with the amount of other work you've done with it their wont be much original left to go wrong.

It's supposed to be a 6 week lead, but the people doing the swap have a good relationship with Richards so managed to get one a bit sooner.

I need to get my arse in gear and finish the tbox ready for the swap over.

Only problem now really is I'm eyeing up all the rusty bits underneath and thinking 'that needs painting'...

So main bits to clean up are going to be, axle tubes, ARB's, trailing arms, brakes, various brackets and fixing eg the fuel tank strap.

Going to get the cross members galved up too I think.

Well last weekend never really went to plan with regards to going for an MOT, as I ended up working all day, that said I had a few little jobs that needed doing in the week beforehand (one piece of exhaust, stick floor pans in and fit a new bonnet cable as I bust the old one) non of which got done, far too hot that week.

Told myself I'd do the bits after work one day this week and go this weekend, did I do it? Did I chuff!
Really couldn't be arsed after work and really have no drive left for this anymore, going round in circles. So forced myself to do it this morning and it'll get done when it gets done.

Anyway, I got some more galv bits off a very nice man :D
Hopefully this is a start of things to come on a future project :)

And got the next little project into the garage.
This is the bulkhead off the 90 I bought last year. The plan is to repair it and get it galvanised.
It needs more than I remembered, a pair of footwells, one foot, one door pillar patching or replacing and one top corner replacing.
Hopefully this will save time and make it's way onto another project when I find one (Yes I have been looking for a couple of months and haven't really seen anything)

I also need to get it shot blasted before sending for galv, so looking at buying my own blast pot, but concerned I'll just be ****ing in the wind with the ell' cheapo ones.
Has anyone had any experience of them?

Hey Aaron, I did once buy a blasting kit from mm, not a pot but the container you fill and attach the air line to the gun, which then draws it through. I bought it to do small areas (think coaster/beer mat) and it was ok. Tried doing an entire wheel and it just took ages. Besides going everywhere. I had my chassis done and paid £150, but that was because a) he was local, b) he had never done one before, c) he was the only person I rang who got back to me.

Your bulkhead looks pretty good though.

Wish I had investigated shot blasting axles, radius arms etc. Spent ages on them with wire wheels etc, then rust treatment, but it's breaking through the paint already. :(
If I was doing multiple projects like you I would definitely go for it.

I'm thinking about having a pair of td5 tubes done to swap onto mine. If you fancy making some money blasting and painting I'd gladly let you do the honours on some for me fella :D

Ah, you see this is my worry. If I buy one I'll be wanting to do quite a bit of stuff, axles, radius arms, bulkhead etc...
I'd like to be able to do it myself, but it's probably not going to be cheap to get something half decent (i.e doesn't take ages)
Probably going to be easier to just get someone else to do it for me.

Yes it would take a lot of work out of it bud, I was much the same and spent ages doing it too.
I think the cost for something decent may be the stumbling block for me.

Aye, we'll have to see how I get on though bud, and what I can find.
But I'm hoping to find something sooner rather than later so I can blast the bulkhead before doing any repairs.

Obviously, you'll need to put pictures up ASAP :D

Not long been in from having a tinker, food, shower and will upload some then :)

:D You know me too well

what are your plans for the next one?

No real plans as yet bud, will strip it and see. But what I'd like to do is galv as much as possible, chassis, bulkhead, cappings axles etc...
Much like I wanted to do on the last one but things never materialised.

Pics pics pics!!!

Nothing special, but coming soon :)

Sooo... people seem to want pics, so here goes.
To be honest the chequer plate is absolutely hideous! But beyond that it's not so bad. Genuine 200tdi defender engine, body work is reasonably straight, doors are pretty solid, chassis seems ok but has been coated in old oil (Which will make it lovely to work on) and it drives rather well for an old girl.

As I said, it was kind of a last minute impulse buy, saw it on ebay with about 10 minutes left and thought it seemed reasonable money for a 90 with a proper defender tdi and plenty of test, and well... here it is now on my drive

That looks very tidy, mate. Is it as clean and rust free as it looks?
Nice set of alloys on it :)
