So todays job was to get the back axle striped.

This is what I found when I removed one of the hubs.

Any idea's ? Breather pipe was block so could be a culprit.

Next problem :( Some of the studs are too short on the axle. I assume if I fit part number 561196 they're longer and solve my problem?

Also made a start doing a parts list. It's a bit long  and it's taking me fecking ages.

If por15 wasn't so expensive I would use it. I really cant afford that sort of money for paint. It's not like it's just a bit either. I'm going to need bloody loads.

I used red oxide (£20 off ebay for 5l), and then hammerite, moving on to wickes branded hammerite on my chassis in august 2012, still looking good

Who you going to use for the new chassis Aaron?

Richards. Marsland and Designa being the obvious.

Im leaning toward Richards for mine, despite the lead time.

Not sure yet Ginge.

But I'm leaning towards Richards the same as you. Plus they're not far from me :)

Designa never entered my mind (I'd forgot about them )

To be honest the sooner the better for me. So going to ring around at some point this week hopefully.

Have you spoke to Richards about lead times then? Although I suppose it will be changing all the time.

So a little bit of cleaning a painting today.
And trying to unblock drains. Just cant seem get a full day to my self :(

First up got the back axle casing cleaned up. Not painted as I'm waiting for it to come.

Found some hammered finish paint in the shed so decided to paint a few bits. Wanted smooth finish so I've only done the bits you cant see. Just didn't want to bolt rusty looking bits on.
Any way various parts in various stages of before, During and after

inner hub seal leaking probably due to loose bearings. if oils getting out, water can get in. and yes to longer studs, they just tap out.

Yep this was my thoughts. Already on the list :) As well as the longer studs. Already wacked the old ones out.

Ive discovered that Richards make there chassis from 2.5mm steel where as Marslands are Original LR suppliers and as such come in 1.9mm. Not sure about Designa.

Im sure you know but the advice is measure corner to corner and floor to rail before starting to build it up.

Cheers mate. This is going to be a very slow build compared to the last one.
Bigger and better it should be :p
Galv chassis will be a better start. When I pull my finger out and order one

Defiantly agree with this mate!

Cool. Least a couple of people have confirmed my suspicions.

Never new about the measuring corner to corner and floor to rail. But I will now I know. Cheers for the heads up.

Right then, Well the paint for the axles etc got delivered today so being the impatient c*nt that I a . I wanted to see what the paint was like.
So I had a couple of hours after work. Only just got back in.
Got both axle casing's painted. Probably want another coat but over all I think they've come up well :)

No pic's as I forgot. But I will get some at the weekend when they've had another coat. As I've run out of paint brushes to do them tomorrow.

Hi matey when I'm down there I'm going to pick your brains on how to restore your axels, I'm tad unsure to be honest!!

Used red oxide as a primer as I had some in the shed.
Then some gloss black rustoleum stuff. Cant remember exactly. I'll get a picky of the tin if I remember.

BLUE BAGS!! :puke:

Don't worry, The only bits that are in the dreaded blue bags is things like swivel seal retainers. Set of brake pads, I ordered allmakes but got ****part  Just have to see how they are.

So hopefully nothing that can go wrong. Famous last words
I've had it now
