Some of you may have noticed my other thread. I’ve had a few issues recently with regards to starting in sub zero temperatures.

Basically it struggled last week at around minus 2/3 degrees and didn’t start at all at minus 6 just kept turning over. People suggested glow plugs (even though they may not use them) and fuel issues. I’d already ordered glow plugs anyway so set about changing them yesterday, all went okay apart from one which was very tight to undo, so that one got left.

Drove to see a friend at the pub with no issues, came to start it afterwards, distinct smell of burning and a generous amount of smoke from under the bonnet and in the cab, immediately disconnected the battery and went home for tools.

Couple of hours later, disconnected the brown wire from the battery that goes to the heater plug timer (all of the wires had melted badly), and then set about fixing the fuel pipe that goes from the lift pump to the filter as it had partially melted. Fixed with some washer pipe, and took to work to swap for my other car. Operation fix the 90 will begin on Monday

I hate Land rovers

The love hate relationship is definitely hate at the moment. Something’s gone with the clutch, won’t go into gear with the clutch down whatsoever. Hopefully my luck will change at some point

Almost a year since I’ve been on this thread. I still have the landy, even though it doesn’t look much different.

The last post was clutch issues, the clutch had completely let go, so that was replaced over a few evenings when the snow was really bad last year.

There has been no other serious issues, just a few suspension bushes, a set of UJs on the rear prop shaft and a reconditioned steering box as mine was badly leaking. Until last week....
I noticed a ‘blowing’ noise from the back of the engine which has gradually got worse. It was also leaking oil onto the back of the bulkhead. Quick google around suggested a head gasket issue. A phone call to a local Land Rover specialist confirmed what I had googled. No water, oil or overheating problems at all, just leaking behind cylinder 4. I dropped the car off Monday night, picked it up Tuesday night and I can’t believe what a difference it’s made. I am £300 lighter for a head gasket, rocker cover gasket, 4 new glow plugs and labour and it was worth every penny (I did expect a larger invoice!). It drives a lot smoother, quieter, faster and just feels better all round.

Currently in the love zone of the love hate relationship so all is well. I’ll put some pictures up soon even though not much has changed. Some new alloys and tyres, mud flaps and that’s about it. I do have some heated leather seats, central locking and some carpet to fit so they’ll be going in shortly (in the new building that I am now tinkering in and doing a few jobs outside of work )

Cheers Ash
