I know lots of project ideas have been bounced around but as I have a tdi disco laid up I was thinking along the lines of buying a galvanised chassis & new bulkheadand and a clapped 90 or 110 and moving the parts around.
Is there a better plan to end up with a nice soft top. I prefer the series shape but discs brakes and springs are further up the wish list.
Thanks

Sounds like a plan but don't underestimate the cost and the amount of work involved. Even the most clapped out fender is gonna cost you a grand.

I know there is going to be a few bob involved but is there a more sensible way to go - ie do not try and put a series on a disco chassis for instance.
Could always buy a decent 110 to start with but not half as much fun.
Looked at ex MOD 110's via Google and they seem a lotta lolly so as I already have the disco with a decent engine and gearbox I was rather hoping someone would say they had already done such and such.
Anyone know of a link to a project....

It's not a big deal in technical terms. You'd be best off finding a "spares or repair" donor then building it on a nice new chassis using the engine and a few other bits of the donor disco. I'm doing a similar at the moment. Started with my old 110 turdo diesel. Got meself a new galv chassis which will end up with the 110 bodywork etc and the tdi engine, and some other bits form my old disco. It was going to be an "as new" type of build but can't affford it anymore so it'll be get it on the road in a basically sound state and improve things as I go along.

I'll have a search around fleebay. Am I correct in assuming that whatever I buy cheaply is likely to have drum brakes and that the disco disc brake axles can be made to fit.....

Yup older 90/110 will have drums on the rear. Disco axle will be a straight swap on a 90 but you really need to get hold of a disc braked salisbury axle for a 110. Having said that the drums are ok on the back.
