Hi,
I've seen a few posts on 6WD drive set ups so I took some pics of underneath mine for those who are interested. These are in the LH spring area generally. You may notice the bushes need replacing before I go any further. They also give an idea of what the chassis is made of. This is as Landrover built them, no mods

And this is what pushes all 5 tonne. I think I may have to clean it tomorrow. To much red dirt there

Seriously, that's a great looking vehicle. Do you get the choice of 2, 4 and 6 wheel drive?
 
Normally drives on the middle two but seeing the front and rear are engaged by vacuum through a T piece it would be easy to set up 2,4,6. All three have ARB air lockers plus there's a winch at each end so it would take a fair bit to bog.

It does 5k's to the litre or about 14 mpg so twice what I use in my Td5. Seeing its only for travelling and not everyday use that's not bad. For an expedition vehicle there's no preparation, just walk out the front door, jump in and away you go. Everything you require is inside.
The rear compartment is over 2 cubic metres and has a false floor with loads of vehicle spares stowed. There's 300 litres of water underneath and that comes out a tap on the rear or through a built in filter for drinking. I can put about 770 litres of fuel if I use jerry cans in the side compartments which gives a range of 3850k's or 2400 miles.
The vehicle has only done 101,500 k's since 1987 but they were hard k's I think. I'm the fourth owner.
Anyone know what the story on importing one of these into the UK is. I'd like to do Morocco and a trip in Scandinavia then flog it off. The other option would be the reverse trip that some people do and go through China and Russia, but that doesn't look cheap or easy.
The chassis and drive train is identical to the SAS LRPV's used in Afghanistan and they were 8T loaded so its more than capable of carrying the fuel and water.

agree mate, its a awsome truck.
yup I can call it a truck coz its weight tells us its no car :)

thinking, would our normal car drivers license be ok for some of our less qualified drivers here in the UK?

its fine fer an old barsteward like me,
I got mine before the world went crazy on laws...

still an awsome truck though, and just love that engineering underneath.

nope, max gross weight of 3.5T on a post 97 licence (dont know about the NEW rules just come in (or they are in a couple of days)
 
another thought, 5 Tonne, does that not need an operators licence??

oh, and its a cat C1 (or C1E if you wanted to tow as well) you'd need for it, (or A on the old licence)
 
buy it get a tax exempt 109 vin plate of ebay swap them over no one will ever check.:mad::mad:

but my son went in a couple years after me fer same thing, and he kept his...
I just tell the kids I is an alien.... :)

had mine done years ago, was the first incling of my stoppin beathing when asleep :eek::eek::eek:
