Also found the Carmichael reference, urs being chassis number 35509577c, would assume the people below done the chassis ???

Carmichael 6 Wheel Range Rover Conversions
Carmichael was the first company to convert a Range Rover to a 6 wheel conversion when they did
it with #VIN 35500002 in 1971.

Carmichael made the 6 wheel mainly for the commercial market fire tenders and rescue vehicles for
extra carrying capacity and space for rescue equipments.

During the whole production run from 1971 to mid 90's Carmichael did approx. 400 6 wheel conversions.

Seems it most likely is a charmichle commando chassis then would make sense as it has a pto, just not sure about the drive through center axle. Could well have been added after service. once it's cleaned up and stripped will see if I can find any kind of part numbers on it. Hopefully it's mostly standard/modified land rover parts inside if not finding spares will be an adventure.

that’s a good idea to see if there’s anymore plates etc after a clean up , assume you’ve also searched the ice cream cab,

hope the above links were useful a little bit, plus wonder if ur able to get the number plate prior to the Q plate if that will then allow to search more mot history / details in order to go back further with a full report

even be able to search any fire engine records with that prior reg number

Plse let us know how u get on and apologises as couldn’t find out any more details for u

Thanks for your help, been through the cab and there was nothing of interest in there, I do have a factory record for the chassis number but its pretty light on detail other than giving an additional line number but not sure what this means,I have attached a pic anyway

ur so welcome , always a team effort

wonder if that line number means number 3 out of 89 built , so by the looks of it Land Rover did build it, particular with the build and dispatch date , leaving as a fire truck for the airports then later on carmichael doing the ice cream conversion

great u having that as proof of history , may i ask please are u going to do most of the build urself, can u get a body that will fit straight onto ur chassis or will u have to build a lot of the bodywork plse, thks

Will be doing the work myself, baring getting the chassis blasted/treated and painting the body. I will probably start a build thread on it this evening. Easy option would be to stick an extended rrc or disco body on it but i think the proportions never look right. from what i have seen the best looking option is a defender double cab pick up with the buck extended for the extra axle along the lines of the attached pic except 100" to the middle axle, this will come with a few challenges but should be doable and worth it in the end.

Do a double cab. It’s a lot easier.
Possible problem would be where the rear doors are( right by the wheels)

now another thought is you “should”not be welding outriggers etc as this is modifying the chassis. Search IVA dvla inspections

so for a real fun looking motor would be a classic 2 door.
Awaiting the build.....

Iva is not a problem as was expecting it anyway as I would run out of points doing body engine and suspension. May aswell get it out the way from the start and will keep me honest while building can't cut any corners. You are right the main difficulty with the double cab pickup will be sorting out the rear doors with the axle being 10" further forward, but it is doable and the more I look the more I like the idea. There are a couple of examples of 100" 5 door defenders in the Dunsfold collection, really could do with a go over one of them with the camera and tape measure, but there seams to be the space to do it.

Hate quiet long drives....
So I also think that the contours of a RRC chassis is different to a defender. They do not have the depth of box in places BUT as you are adding brackets you should be fine.
