I think nothing more is going to be achieved on this thread i gave my view and so has many others shall we end it. Its getting tiresome and filling up my inbox!
Used to be16 with consent.Aint a muck about tho.TA make a quarter of the the army now, get plenty of deployments.Anyone know what age you have to be to join the TA? 18?
Just as an aside, theres a bloke round my way driving round in Disco with a home made sign stuck in the rear windows.
"4x4 towing £25:00"
What ever happened to being public spirited, was gonna ask him have you got Insurance etc but he'd buggered off!
Saw an ambulance turn over once at a roundabout.Copper who attended tride to go through the windshield using a life hammer in the centre of the screen with latex gloves for protection. He didnt take well to me shouting at him and calling him a tit.(civy bulider looking type)i wouldn't let a copper isolate a battery let alone an apparent bystander with "response" printed on a hi viz
The only question that now remains is do I find out if this is true and restart my application?
LOL, they must be in a poor way if I can teach them anything!!of course, you have to teach them the errors of their ways
I've been reading with interest too, as I had thought about joining the local Hants & Berks group, but wanted to be sure I'd sorted the niggly issues with my car and be sure I could rely on it beforehand. Nothing more embarassing than turning up to help out and ending up needing recovering yourselfWell, I have to thank you all for a very lively and constructive debate, and for once it didn't involve the usual insults. I had a very formed opinion of the 4x4 response service following my experiences, but from what I have read here has got me thinking again and I find myself revisiting my conclusions. Those existing members of various groups have taught me a lot in the past few days, much more that I could gain from attempting to join my local group. As Skynet suggested, the group may have now changed and improved such things. The only question that now remains is do I find out if this is true and restart my application?
Same as any organisation anywhere, doing anything at all ... there's good and bad practitioners, good and bad management and good and bad practices used.
On the whole, my view is that 4x4response is 'a good thing' .. I'm a forum member of Lincs/Yorks, not a full member yet, but intend doing a couple or more days out with them before committing myself. I have no intention of being political about it, I don't want to run it, I don't want to be a hero I don't want to 'look good' .. what I do want is better training, to offer some (even minimal) help, and give something back.
I'm a school caretaker and as such quite well known locally and tend to help out at almost everything going, village fete, community centre, local youth club, various bits and bobs ... I just like helping, but 4x4Response, to me, says I can help by also using the 4x4, which always means fun too!!!
Will do.
Intend to go to an open meeting in a couple of days ..

Also like some of the other comments over the last few days, I've no interest in joining a bunch of self important knobs more interested in flashing lights and struting about, nor a group of wannabe emergency services guys. I reckon the 4x4 response teams can provide a valuable service within their stated remit, and I think I could help.
