do the test with the 1st gasket and spacer done up lightly with some nice smooth washers on the bolts to compress the gasket between the housing and spacer a lil

right, ok I shall re-pack and tighten it up then.

need a bloody low torque wrench to go to then 10ftlbs they recommend lol-guessing me thinks as my small one only goes as low as 40

right, before re-packing I thought I would just torque it up and try it with a screwdriver through the dizzy hole.

not happy , really too stiff to be right even after 10 turns or so which should have cleared vaseline I am guessing.

when back at work on monday I will get the instructions from where I left them and then when home will double check it all and pay particular attention to the endfloat on the gears with a straight edge although I cant see that really being the problem after my checks today tbh

will do, well did do as you have to fit it with two bolts as part of the drilling process but I will do it again :)

been watching with interest..this engine stuff is a bit of a learning process for you eh??

stick at it!dont worry about doing job twice, better safe than sorry..the next one will be easier..and yes gap the rings..esential unless you fancy snapped ring or two down the road..

do you need a baby torque wrench??

done work before like new rings (I just put bmw ones on- german stuff good enough to not need gapping? ), cam and I have had this oil pump upgrade before too (although it was on the car when fitted so no way to tell how it feels, just started it it up and hoped it didnt snap lol,) done a couple of outboard re-builds too but they were two strokes however on car engines I have only ever changed the part that had issue not re-built from scratch with newly machined block heads and all new parts so its just a question of gauging whats acceptable really. TBH when there is as much money at stake as there is here if it goes tits on first start up anyone would be worried- not like I can just get another 4.4 block/crank off ebay uk

Possibly tuesday

Next day po service ??

Will ask my mrs to send on monday if you wish??

glad I checked, when the gaskets compressed the gears protruded 0.20mm from the working face, rang real steel who said they had real trouble sourcing the kits, and that the gaskets should have been red but both of mine were black and two differnt thicknesses lol

The have not got any more kits/gaskets and they are on back order with 4 people waiting on them. I got the thinnest gasket paper I could and made a gasket but that gave me 0.9mm endfloat which is about 7 times too much, you cant win with these silly tiny measurements.

The end of the gear will be skimmed off flush with the spacer plate 2moro and I will then re-use the thinnest gasket to give me my endfloat of 0.28mm.

nothing they say is bolt on is ever bolt on and right pmsl
