So I went to start my 300 tdi after it bei g sat for 9 months. It was running fine when I parked it. Anyway despite a brand new battery it would't go. Slackened off injector fuel inlet.....and no fuel. Slackened off bleed screw on the top of tge fuel filter and prooved fuel delivery with manual lever and also when cranking engine....plenty fuel and no air so happy with that. Suspected possible problem with fuel stop solenoid and sure enough...no power getting to it with ignition switched on so ran a temporary +ve supply to it and can now hear the solenoid clicking. Thought this would be the end of my problem but still not getting any fuel to the injectors, so my question to anyone on here who is knowledgable is this...

Is there anything else other than the fuel stop solenoid which would stop fuel reaching the injectors?
 
Just because its clicking doesnt always mean its working, Ive had that a couple of times now.

Thanks Lynall, this is really the answer I was hoping to get. I would have thought the clicking meant it was working but I will take your word for it. I have ordered a new one and will report back when it is fitted next week.
 
Yeah, think that's the way to go. Up to now my original question remains unaswered, which is,

Is there anything else besides the stop solenoid that will stop fuel reaching the injectors?
 
Wire on #4 injector means it is EDC - so is fly by wire.

Is the FIP "buzzing" with the ignition on?

Yep, it should be making a slight buzzing or humming noise - certainly mine was*.... Does your check engine light function as intended - I.E. come on with the ignition while the system self tests, and then go off?

* = I took EDC off my D1 auto due to failure of #4 injector, which is NLA.
 
Oh right, i assumed the FIP was purely mechanical so ruled it out. Are you saying it's an electric pump? I don't see any cables going to it other than for the stop solenoid. Maybe the "buzzing" is nothing more than this solenoid when powered up ie ignition on??
 
Whilst the stop solenoid will "buzz / hum" - i doubt you'd hear it...

What about your check engine light?

We need to confirm that the EDC FIP is still there - post a picture of the FIP - I'll be able to tell which FIP it is....
 
Ok thanks, can't get back to it till at least Tuesday tho so I'll post it then. Just out of interest, can you explain what you mean by "confirm that the EDC FIP is still there"? And if it's not "still there" would that really prevent fuel getting to the injectors?

Also, I should pehaps mention that there is a host of new electrical problems, to mentikn a few... the switch that prevents the gear lever coming out of PARK until the brake pedal is pressed, doesn't work, also the indicators have stoppec working and I noticed a faint electrical burning smell just prior to the fuel solenoid stopping working. I didn't mention these earlier as I didn't think they could be related. I'm a bit old school and work on tbe basis that, if a diesel engine is getting fuel, it should run and the only device that could prevent this is the fuel stop solenoid but now I am beginning to wonder.

What the man means is the EDC fuel pump should buzz (not the stop solenoid) with ign on and engine not running, when they die people tend to fit std cable injector pumps.
So if the pump has a cable to a lever that actually goes into the top of the inj pump (not to be confused with the kickdown cables) then its not EDC, EDC came out in 1996 N-reg.
Its quite a good system but not widely supported diagnostics wise, bit like the TD5 until Nanocom came along.

Quick search on ebay will show you what they look like.
