Quick question lads and ladies, have any of you used Time cert kits for repairing a stripped thread?

I used them at my last unit but don't think we have them where I currently work.

I know the studs are M10x35 but what size repair kit do I require M10x10 ,M10x1.25 or M10x150?

Took the turbo off today to sort an other issue out and found the top left stud had threaded the head!

Hopefully an adult will be along soon to enlighten me!

You would be better off using Helicoils as the Time Sert are solid inserts IIRC.

For a matter of interest, how DFNL did you manage to strip a thread in cast??

M10 x 1.5 is 'standard' metric coarse thread but sorry, I can't recall if that's exactly what the exhaust stud size is when i replaced one in my Disco 300tdi .. But I'd be 99% certain that it is .. ;)

They will be the standard M10x1.5 thread, as metric fine are not ued very often, especially in cast iron or alloy heads.

The easiest way to check the size is to try and run standard M10x1.5 nut down one and if it does, then that's the size you want ... Simples ;)

Cheers gents,

Oldseadog used Time sert before on one of the threads and it works much better than helicoils.....plus we have a full kit at work so it was free. One of the biker lads swears by them. When I was removing the manifold studs I new it was stripping but it needed to come off:(

Paul I think last time I used the M10x1.25 as it was the closest we had. Works fine a year later ....thought I'd ask as I don't think we have time sert kits here and its 40 quid a kit size online so not cheap!

unscrewed my studs and now bolt back together using m10 bzp 12.9 socket caps copper slipped in.... no more rusting in place and no chance of rounding a 12.9 m10 socket... allen wrench will break first

cheers steve

It is definitely M10 x 1.5, just ran a die down my manifold studs the other month. I actually bought a helicoil kit to do mine off amazon, but then found there was still enough thread left
