I hope it's Ok too - And I'd be very proud of what you have achieved so far irrespective of it using some oil - Clearly better if it doesn't use much at all, but it's great to see what you have done. :).

Big thumbs up from me for sticking with it :)

If it didn't cause me so many issues typing, I'd put one or two of my repairs on here for people to take the p*ss  - oh sorry I mean constructively criticise :D
Cheers, marra. :)
What's the problem with typing, that doesn't sound good o_O

Aye, could be better, but it could also be a lot worse ! - I have a form of MD, for which I take 60 tablets a day , ( for the pain and swelling, and the side effects of the "main" drugs - actual condition ain't treatable ) - hands just cramp up and stop working o_O & the pain drives me round the twist at times - ho hum - plenty are worse orft :)

I get plenty of "thinking time" when I'm doing stuff - cos normal speed ain't really achievable

I ain't complaining one bit - when it was diagnosed XX years ago, there was a lad in the next (hospital) bed with something similar and he went and bl@@dy died .

So, ....... I'm fine :)

This week's check and I've had to put 250ml in to get the level back to where it was on the dipstick. So, that's 250ml in 540 miles since it came of the Miller's running in oil and went back on to 10W40.

That's a bummer, I'd been watching and eagerly awaiting success.

Even worse that it seemed to be mostly cured, then at least better, and now back to the start again :(.

Are you still leaning toward a re-hone, or investing in oil stocks now?

I think I'll have to plan for an on the drive re-hone. Matching the rotational speed of the drill to the in and out movement of the honing tool, to get a 45 degree spiral cut, is going to be tricky :(

Not an enviable prospect stripping it back down for that. But it's but another small task within the big picture considering how much good work you've done on it already mind!

Anyone old hands locally to bribe into doing the dirty driveway dingle-balling for you?

Read almost this whole thread. Thanks for documenting it All! It is a shame that it looks like you may be glazed but I'm sure you will sort. Great to see how much advice and help you got through the build. I did a similar build few years back on a Ltd edition corrola coupe. Was a crazy feeling cranking it for first time after building in shed for months. It's definitely something I'd consider one day but suppose I better build the body first haha.

Ha, ha, by that I presume you mean the honing? Not sure if there is. I live in a small village. Anyway, I'd want to do it myself. Better job satisfaction - if it works that is! I've backed myself so far, so might as well give it a go. I'll maybe have to build a test rig using some plastic drain pipe and experiment with the speed of the drill against an up and down motion to get the 45 degree honing spiral marks. Not sure how critical the angle is. I'll need to research.

Brave man reading all that. I hope it was interesting and/or of some use. Yes, got loads of advice and support. It's a massive help knowing you have something like this forum behind you. Practical help as well as moral support, when stuff goes wrong, is a massive help.

not to a degree or 2 but quite critical

So, with a foot or a knee on each wing, all I have to replicate is this syncronisation

Is it burning it or peeing it somewhere ?

Do those drill bit honing toilet brush things work?
Apparently, but getting it synchronised will be the issue.

Burning it, I reckon. Having said that, since I went back to the standard 10W40, a few, weeks ago I've developed a slight oil leak. It's dripping off the bottom of the filter, landing in the webbing of the front diff casing and dripping on to the drive. I don't think it's enough to account for all of the oil consumption though. Unless, I'm very lucky! I must have got a bit of muck or blue paper towel stuck between the oil filter rubber seal and the housing.

Does it puff blue smoke ?

Any smell distinct in the exhaust? Take care with that tho ...

Give the filter a good clean and throw some talc at it, it'll show the track of any leak, it may be coming from somewhere else and being blown back ...

Right chaps, I've been away a while cos I went to investigate.
I only noticed the drip a night or so ago when I went out to count the threads on the waste gate actuator for @neilly
I'm embarrassed to say I didn't investigate further as I thought it was a dodgy seal on the filter.

This is the drip from the sump. You can see oil on the drive.
This is the pool of oil on the diff
diff oil pool.jpg

I spun the oil filter loose and spun it back on again.
Then I noticed the oil pipes to the filter housing were damp.

Time to fire her up and see what happens when the oil pressure is up.

Lovely new engine oil started dripping out :eek::eek::D:D:D:D:D
My luck might just be in after all  I can't tell you how feckin excited I am :D
