It doesn't take too long to work out where all the bolts go, various lengths etc for the timing cover but the rest are all fairly similar and can be worked out by requirement :)

All of my bolts are going back into the holes they came from. IMO easier than having a load of plastic bags.

Never bothered labelling the wiring loom though

Sam quick question regarding megasquirt. Does the entire standard engine loom get binned when you fit it or do i need to keep any of it? Thought id ask before it goes in the bin.

Dont bin it must be worth a few £ to someone?

Yes the complete loom is replaced but do not throw away the Hotwire loom, it is worth having for carb conversions etc, fully working Hotwire is quite acceptable particularly with a tornado chip, so it's worth hanging on to honestly.

Ok brilliant cheers!

As for the wiring i shall keep hold of it then.

Well you don't need it personally because you build a new MS loom but it is not worth the bin, I just kept all my Hotwire stuff in case I ever converted back.

Cheers :)

**** bet it stinks in your bedroom rob!!

Regards the blackest engine prize, I wish I had taken pictures of my rocker boxes but it was before my forum days, we lifted the rocker covers and there was thick oily charcoal solid up to the top of the valve springs and we had to dig it out of the tops of the rocker covers.

Honestly you couldn't see the springs, it was unreal, just solid barbecue in there

dude you gotta see this free 3.5 efi I have sitting, it really takes the cake (or the charcoal biscuit) :p

You ever down this way?

Evening gent's! :)

Made some more progress with the strip down this evening.

Heads are off! :D

There is a slight lip at the top of the pistons travel but you can only just feel it.

Oh and before i forget head gaskets.

I only had a slight lip too, but when you measure 3 ways or more up and down the bores you may find they are all over the place (relatively lol) and it needs a rebore and + pistons for a proper job. my re-bore was £40 and the pistons with rings £270

I reckon seen as though im going to spend a large heap of cash on megasquirt i may aswell do it it properly and get a rebore and +pistons/rings.

And i dont really fancy having to strip it down again anytime soon!

Good thing is with MS it doesn't matter if you're running stock 3.5 or tuned up 4.6, so if you need to save money now in order to build a better motor in future maybe then it's nothing lost.

Just sayin in case you're hard up against it, don't worry, MS won't mind if you ask it to run a half worn engine, it'll still do it better than Lucas could.

Cheers :)

He will be keeping his Hotwire injectors, CTS, inlet manifold, trumpet base and plenum to use with MS, but the rest of the Hotwire kit would be spare, all you would need is the above, unless your flapper manifold will suit?

Hotwire is much better than flapper, better airflow measurement at WOT and less restrictive, also nicely tuneable.

It really works rather well if its in good fettle so as a basic upgrade i would always recommend it over flapper or carbs.

Cheers

No idea if it'd work, would think the injectors may be different resistance/pattern but the rest should be the same

Injectors are defo different and I don't know if Hotwire injectors fit in flapper manifold, same for the CTS and Hotwire has a FTS aswell in the rail.

Plenty of Hotwire manifolds complete on ebay

Hmmm may just keep with flapper then :p be the easier method I reckon and then use mega jolt at some point
