I am in the process of building a 3.9 to put into my 1988 Range Rover to replace the very tired 3.5. I was lucky with the 3.9 it only needs standard size bearings and rings to put it back together. For the camshaft, I did a lot of reading and looking at different profiles and decided to use a standard ERR5924. For all round performance this seemed the best choice. Other manufacturers claim to offer more HP or torque from their grinds but at the expense of low down torque or HP at higher revs. At least with the ERR5924 I know what I am getting.
In the next week or so I will be installing the camshaft and would like to dial it in to make sure its timed correctly. Does anyone know the figure for Lift at TDC for no.1 intake valve, or any other figure I can use to check the timing?
