spoke to the man at real steel in depth, to the point where he said no one doing the rv8's normally asks technical questions like that :p

What a pain... feeling bit better today so tried to get a bit more done on the v8. Got the pistons in, Followers in, Cam in, Head on..... oh wait I dont have the right head bolts... only 14 bolts all the same length.
I thought they are ment to be different lengths? And 28 of em?

Have you got outer row bolts on yours?

nice thing about the aussie one is they never had them

Yea myn is the 14 bolt heads, I dont mind using the old bolts for the outer row, but still lacking new ones that will be torqued!

Im gonna get em as two of my head bolts felt a little sticky when I took em out, gonna borescope the bolt holes and have a look for chewed threads

Bit of an update, recently I cleaned the dizy up greased the advance parts and sealed it up so I can add a breather. going to use it to get the motor running sweet before I make my electronic control unit. Also cleaned out my sump of the old oil and crud!
Today I had a bash at cleaning out my rocker covers, man they were dirty! Also got the engine going together, crank in, pistons, cam, followers, push rods, heads and the timing set. Hoping to have it mostly done tomorrow!

Damn that's looking clean mark!

8 cylinders arranged in a V pattern is just so right for an internal combustion engine! :D

I had that, it was a lot better with genuine landrover leads but I gather they are not much good now either. I went for magnecores in the end. trouble is all the caps leads and rotors are poor quality now which is why I went for magnecore and new old stock cap.

PS you should probably start a new thread rather than hijacking Marks

nice one mate, looks all clean and new now! im just in the prosses of doing the same with my 1983 clasic rangerover, just put the block and crank back in,with the new clutch, cant wait to fire the thing up,and see what i can get it running like, so satisfactory when u rebuild and engine, and it runs nicely! :D

hi guys i have a isue with my 1991 3.9 v8 it turns over but wont fire we had aa out till 2am they told us it was arking out an we needed new leads dizzy and roter arm.we got new ones and fitted them and a new coil she still doing same thing.do you have any idia whats up.

did they say where exactly its arcing?

Bit of a step backwards today, I set to torquing up the bottom end Before moving on to the top and noticed the con rods were not centred on the pistons, so had to turn them all around so the 2 that next to each other have the dimple facing each other (see pics below).
Before moving on to the top span it over after doing each one of the big ends up, and 1 of the big ends on the con rod seized up, seems to be a problem with the shell or the con rod itself, as it does the same on another part of the crank, didn't get around to testing the shell in another con rod yet as I ran out of time.
