yea that's pretty much what I've been doing.
I've thrown the bottle now, cant check.. but pretty sure it said for 1k

I wonder if anyone knows what this problem might be down to...

Recently she's become a bit of a pig to start.. seems to not want to start and ends up flooding.

It does something strange though, when your cranking it does go to splutter/try to start but it 9 times out of 10 actually start AFTER you let go of the key after cranking some.

it also dies when you let it idle sometimes.

To me this sounds like either timing... which I'm pretty sure is sweet, or fuel map related.. so a sensor of some sort.

Before I took her up to the lake district I thought I had killed the ecu as no matter what I did I couldn't start it. So out of desperation I got a 3.9 ecu from ebay which wouldn't work.
Ended up borrowing an identical one from a mate and got her going. After it started I reconnected mine and it worked but still flooded when trying to start, after the trip it worked flawlessly for a while but is doing it again.

Give it some extra voltage with a jump start, or connect starter to a different battery, if it fires when you stop cranking it could be voltage ie weak component further down the line

I like the idea about using a different battery to start!
Might have to do that!
Ill try connecting the 2nd battery up to give it some extra grunt and see how that goes 1st.

not enough cranking volts..ie coil being starved..if was old school dizzy would say resistive/normal wire from starter to coil breaking down/or starter coil feed ####ed etc....hense once cranking stopped engine still spinning over (inertia)but full voltage now available to coil..

though aload of other things it could be too...

Cheers zen. Question. . Would that also cause it to die?
when I ran it today it idles fine for ages but comming off the revs it tries to die unless you help it for a second.

as far as I can remember this idle dieing also started around the starting problem.

Its not down on power that I can notice, what about afm?.

Did the old cutting out for a second today.. one of the guys in the club said all my symptoms are classic of a failing coil!

Another member has one for sale, gona try that out.

So my water pump belt tensioner has been gradually getting louder and louder.
Rather than pay an extortionate amount for a new one I'll repair it.
went to a company called Beeline bearing with the old one which I pressed out of the pulley and bracket.
got one which was larger than the original 15mm ID and 30mm OD.
Made a new shaft from an off cut of 1" bar I had left over from the tow bar pin I made.
Turned it to size and also enlarged the pulley bore and hey presto.. one lovely pulley.
