Been to have another look to see what's there, Found some of the bits I thought might be missing , Rear axle fully rebuilt with all brand new parts including parabolic springs and shocks , front the same, nearly finished just needs hubs and bearings but the are there brand new in boxes. loads of other parts still boxed too including heavy duty steering bars with ends, few engine bits injector pipes seals gaskets etc. . Bulkhead very good just a little surface rust will clean up great. roof and sides good too couple of bonnets to choose from, decent seat box, nothing that cant be sorted. Think there is only one door though . Brand new starter motor fitted engine fitted to gear box, it does turn over and they did have it started but will need further investigation to see what's what. Galve chassis think he said it was Richards but will have to check. Still pondering over a price, but it is a lot better then I first thought.

Spend 1/2 an hour on ebay and check what the parts alone are worth.
S2 wiper motors good money
200 tdi decent money
Galv chassis good money
Then think of a number and see what they have to say, remember you can always go up.

Had another rummage around and got it rolling, to be fair there is more parts then I thought , got to be around 14 to 1500 quid spent already on new parts fitted and still to fit. . also spare body parts that are solid, couple of spare bonnets and bits off Defender too.
offered 1500 but he wants 2000 , shame to let it stand for another few years just to finally rot away. so think I will buy it for that.

Nice one, I’m a bit of a list man myself and would start documenting what’s been done , what need doing , what parts you have new and old to be fitted then label all those little seals and gaskets.
Then decide whether to keep tdi or di then I would start with the engine as easier with the access to it you have now , certainly remove the inlet manifold and turbo to clear out any birds nest inside , set tappets maybe head off check cylinders , new gasket.
Inspect and clean the fuel bits , lift pump , fuel filter , remove injectors but connect to IP and purge clean fuel through checking spray pattern.
Pump water through cooling circuit see if any crap comes out , fit new rad , plumb a temporary fuel supply and coolant
Oil and filter change , then give it a trial start. Should keep you going till weekend😀

Gonna be a longish one only have a couple of hours a day and most weekends. The PO Did have it started briefly for a few seconds as it sits now, but said was very smokey. would like to give it another go to get it on vid, but not sure how wire it up etc, I know I need a battery and fuel going in from a can. Can anyone give me step by step guide on how to start it for a minute or so without radiator ? just to see whats what, then I can take it from there to see if it needs rebuilding or not.

200 not used for a while or idling for a good while can white smoke like a bar steward until the stat has opened ie about 4/5 miles, so do not condemn the engine until you have given it a proper roadtest.
Even if the 200 is totally shagged it will start and run okay, my 200 in the s2 is worn out beyond belief, starts on the button and runs well, but she breathes like a steam train after a decent run.
As for running it with no rad, I would keep that to a few seconds at the most.

Just thought I might get an Inclination of whats wrong , if anything is. But lets face it the bloody thing has been stood for god knows how many years , at the least its gonna get a timing belt and water pump, but think the best bet is like steve2286w says , think I will take the head off and inspect things in there .
I am no expert, but have just finished rebuilding a 2.4 none turbo toyota hilux , changed crank, new big end and main bearings , new piston rings , honed the bores , lapped the valves etc, head pressure tested and skimmed. first time Ive ever tried anything like that, always been frightened to have a go but it runs great, . I am assuming / hoping the 2ootdi will be quite similar to do ?

There’s several 200tdi check and rebuild thread in the engine section if you search, nice engine to work on

And also a good 200tdi rebuild article here

Thanks for advice. If I decide to give it a quick start up, which of the fuel pipes do I run from can, 1 2 or 3 ?
