oil will soften it no harm unless you put a few litres in it and just scrape machine surfaces, or thin coat of grease then it will wipe clean

Thanks for the advise, but after a discussion with a few mates I've decided to paint the parts which I know I'll miss when painting, and then paint after assembly. I was going to do it all in bits but after weighing up all the masking required and the new flange bolts which will need painting as well.

Just a slight update. I've been to billing expecting to get some bits such as 24spline hubs and stub axles and some cheap bodywork. Come back with absolutely nothing. On the plus side I've been to a mates on the way home and picked up a good td5 bulkhead with just a slight crease in it, complete with the later dash. I don't think it's too bad for £400 including a complete 24spline front axle! Should hopefully be able to make some more progress now.

Got bored of the leccy wire brush and decided to make a cheap sand blasting cabinet as I have no protection for blasting and glass grit stings quite a lot.
It's a bit heath Robinson but it works quite well.

Not posted anything for a while and thought id give you a quick update. Being back at uni has virtually stopped progress on the landy. didnt get much done over xmas due to it being too cold to paint and because ive been busy working. Temperature shouldnt be an issue anymore as ive managed to get the farm to invest in a decent diesel space heater after my waste oil fired one failed miserably (lots of smoke and fire everywhere leading to a fresh pair of boxers) so hopefully ill be able to make some progress next weekend

Retreated the hubs as the axles been sat for a while. Hopefully painting will start tomorrow

Managed to get the shed warm enough to add some paint. I'll hopefully get the topcoat on next weekend and resume putting the axle back together. I might even have some wheels under the chassis by February!!

Just been painting a few suspension components. The green I've chosen has turned out great so I think I'm definitely using the same colour to paint the body

Slight progress report, invested in some deox c rust remover last week and I must say the results are brilliant as it returned a heavily rusted hub to like new condition.
Also got a top coat if paint on the swivel housings so I'm getting there with the axle now

Thanks, I've been using an epoxy primer with a 2k top coat. Not the nicest stuff to work with but goes on well.

It's been put on hold for the moment as I've been busy with other things. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get stuck into it again in the next few weeks

Right, it's been a while cos I've been mad busy with uni dissertation and final year exams. Since I've had a little time I've finished rebuilding the front axle so hopefully I'll get it painted tomorrow as well as a few other bits. After that I won't be able to do much after I get back from Europe in a months time (if the discos we've bought last that long) and then the summers pretty much mine other than general farm work inbetween. Sorry it's not the fastest rebuild on here unlike some but hopefully I'll be able to get somewhere over the next few months and I'll try my best to keep you all updated
