If you look regularly through the fip cover you should see belt fibres/dust gathering if things aren't well.
I missed your other posts about the rocker shaft and what not because I never got alerts for those posts.

None that I found, and when measured all were just still within tolerance in terms of wear.
I had not thought of looking thought the fip cover, I will check that first as is a lot easier than removing the whole front cover.

It has also given me the confidence to try rebuilding the 2.25 diesel bought for a friends series 1. It turns over by hand but was bought on a pallet and is a complete unknown. Thinking of a basic check/overhaul overhaul on the head (similar to what I have just done), and then do the bottom end with new crank/bigend bearings and new piston rings. But I am sure the problems with that will fill another thread.
