My first question, so go easy on me. I'm planning my first ever engine rebuild and have found damage to the front part of the crankshaft, and associated parts which I believe has been caused by my ex mechanic not doing up the crank bolt tight enough. I'm not able to find the correct dimensions for this front end of the crankshaft, although I think it may be 1.25 inches, judging by the inside measurement of the pulley. If there is only minimal measureable damage will I be able to reuse the crankshaft and make up the difference with Loctite or some other product.

If you are asking about using loctite to fill a gap where steel was supposed to be you are looking for trouble. Best would be to have a machine shop machine what you need as a spacer or filler.
 
Google ERR1181 apparently its the same part no for the 2.5 petrol, 2.5 na diesel and the def/disco 200tdi, so must be one out there somewhere.
 
Can you post up a pic of the damage and by the way was it standard crank bolt or a winch drive dog ?
 
Hi guys, it's midnight here in Oz so Blackburn, I'll try to send a picture tomorrow and in answer to your question, it's a standard crank bolt.

Barbados, I was clutching at straws but damage is no more than 2 or 3 thou max in places, if the correct measurement is 1.25 in. By the way can anyone confirm this measurement.

Lynall, if I do have to I'll renew the crank completely but I was still hoping I don't have to, still clutching at those straws, ever the optomist.

I reckon best way to confirm crank nose diameter is to get hold a of a new or decent crank pulley and measure the id.
I have put them back together with quite badly damaged noses before and some loctite, but it could make it a real sod to get off next time.
 
Depending upon the nature of the damage you can get crank bearings sprayed with metal then reground back down to correct size. Can't remember what the process is called at the moment but it does mean a crank out job.
