I ordered and fitted another MAF from ebay - a used Bosch that came with a guarantee. I get the same problem when i plug that in as i do with the brand new one. Tonight i have fitted a stainless steel EGR bypass and a set of blue DPH silicone turbo hoses in case they were somehow lending to the problem - that's what i told my wife anyway, i just think they look great :)

Could it be a dodgy TPS? I take it your prodding the throttle the whole time your trying to start it so if dodgy it might come good with the prodding? Never heard of anyone else having that problem but thought it might be worth suggesting.

If i unplug the maf connector everything works as normal, I'm running out of ideas :-( I plugged a ODB2 connector in tonight to see if that would show anything but everything looked normal. I tried it with both new maf's plugged in and I could see a reading for the MAF. I plugged my original maf in and got no reading, so at least it confirms my original was dead? I'm fearing it's the ecu now?

I found another post where I was discussing the MAF with Nodge and copied it for you to have a look through. I metered the voltages coming from the MAF and the fuel rail sensor by poking a sharp pin into the wire. BTW have you checked the the low and high pressure fuel pressures? My car is a bit sluggish to start and I'm going to replace the low pressure fuel pump (very noisy and a bit low) when I get time.
BTW don't take my voltage readings as correct as I was using a ropey old multimeter and my MAF was probably iffy anyway.

Right. I had some time this morning to do a few tests on Td4 sensor voltages.
I only have enough time to test the Fuel pressure signal and MAF signal. Both these were done with the Synergy turned off.
Fuel pressure signal
Idle 1.28V to 1.29V
2K Rpm 2.49V to 2.51V

MAF signal
Idle 2.25V to 2.32V
2K Rpm 3.48V to 3.52V

I said
Nice one Nodge, just for comparison here are my readings.
Fuel Rail
Idle.................1.27V
2k rpm............1.37V

MAF
Idle.................2.2V
2k rpm............3.0V

Thanks for that, i'll get my probe out this weekend and have a poke about :)
