hi can anyone help please ive got a range rover p38 auto diesel 2001 i drove to work parked up came out dinner time to drive home went to start it and it said engine disabled press remote or enter key code but i do not have a remote for my motor i had the alarm disabled so you just unlock the motor start it and off you go so do i need to get a sync mate because i guessing its the becm gone out of sync or is it just dead ?
Thanks Colin

Welcome:).

Have you got the EKA code? maybe in the handbooks if you got them? if not contact Land Rover stealer and they will give it for free.
My best suggestion would be order a remote and bite the bullet, Its a bitter pill but it would certainly help. As you have NO remotes i am sure you can just order a new key 1.

@mozz smith is the king of getting these started when they throw a wobbly.

There's an LED by the windscreen and another on the gear-select lever and he'll want to know what they're doing.

As Marjon says, these things much prefer the remote, although if you don't have the generation 3 RF receiver that can cause issues like low volts, burnt out locks and loss of sync.

If you're keeping it then get a Nanocom rather than the one-trick pony Syncmate. And a proper key. And a proper RF receiver. And then turn off passive immobilisation.

Are you able to elaborate on this? I was under the distinct impression only land rover are able to supply working key fobs

That is correct. Only a dealer can get a new working fob.

If you have a keyfob then it is possible to clone it but that is inadvisable as it will kick its clone out of sync if you use it.

I'll have to check my eBay history but I had a hell of a job from someone in N. Wales / Anglesey sending out the wrong parts and claiming they were fit for purpose. With charlatans like that around I would be cautious.

EDIT: just checked and it was classic-rides-north-wales but the seller is no longer registered on eBay. Tells you all you need to know. Steer clear.

Could just need new battery in the fob. Had engine immobilised once from filler flap at the petrol station. Was enough to convince me source new batteries. They aren’t easy to come across decent ones either these days

Thats unusual, Les has a very good reputation on the FB groups from all over the world. You sure its not the other breaker in wales who vastly overprices parts what should be considered scrap.

Les sent a little receiver box out along with a key guide so he was able to replicate my key. He was then cut a new key but in the same style as the D2 blade and sent it over. Was just a case of syncing it to the car when it arrived and has worked faultlessly since.

Just a little black box that he sends you, if you can't get your key to him this captures the signal so he can reprogram the new key. You send it back to him.
Gotcha, so it's a clone of an existing key, not an additional one to use along side

ok so i got the motor august last year it had a working keyfob with it that fitted in the ignition and another key for the door so 2 different keys i tried to put a new keyfob case on and swap the door key over instead of carrying 2 keyfobs around but the inside of the fob was in very poor condtion and just fell apart when i opened it i do have a friend that repairs keys he said it was u/s unrepairable so i had to start the motor by putting in the eka code everytime then in october last year did the same thing as its doing now but the engine was turning over just not starting so another friend plugged into to it and turned off the passive immobilisation.it started straight away now its not even turning over the red light is flashing all the time and i did buy from a friend who works for landrover a new key but he could bot get it to sync to the motor and basically said they did not know why and would not take this £200 key back (hes not my friend now )

I may be wrong but it sounds like the new key was the same number as one already synced

Sounds to me you have a real mismash of bits going on.

Sounds to mean that your " exfriend" would have ordered the correct key as per LR records for your car. Did it open the door? Do you still have it?

Its possible somebody has changed the BECM/ ignition barrel with matching key with working fob.

Its a lot of things and now you are in a mix and not sure whats actually right. Its all fixable but could need expensive diagnostics. @martyuk is not around he could sort it. As said earlier @mozz smith may be willing to help on the phone as he has done many times, at least he may be able to pin it down and tell you what you need. There is another guy @Rick-the-Pick cant remember what his company is called but could be worth a call. somebody will:)

Talk to Les at Classic Rides North Wales. He is a genius on this stuff and is able to supply new key fobs from scratch. I have used him a couple of times, amd that from the other side of the world. Quick, friendly, always happy to chat, and better still, knows his stuff and will sort you out.

Yes the chap I brought the motor off did say it had a second hand ignition barrel fitted that was why the door lock key was different and the new key fob from LR was one that had been in there parts department for ages it was not ordered in for motor so I’m guessing it was already programmed to another motor and once there programmed you can’t change them I’ve heard ? Also forgot to say the eka code procedure in the door does not work now if I try to do it it ends up in key code lock out for half hour ?

I’m on holiday for a week from tomorrow so going to have time to ring around and see if Classic Rides North Wales.can help me I will keep everyone up to date thanks everyone for the help so far
