It was a strange occurrence.WOW - why??
I'm afraid I can't say I've done anything as noble as providing my son with an opportunity like that - my purchase is 100% cocking about.I'm in a similar situation. A mate of mine had a 1992 Mini Cooper which was in need of some loving. I jokingly asked if he would sell it (expecting a ridiculous price) and the next thing I know, it's all mine. Engine doesn't run but body wise it isn't actually all that bad. Hoping to get it back together whilst teaching my Son how to strip down and rebuild an engine and sell it on to provide funds for my D2
(From your build thread) Derek sounds like the ideal outlaw. I've never known one like it - mine were much more stereotypical! My father in law had a Jowett Javelin. He absolutely loved it. This is when they were just married so must have been the early sixties. He did a full engine rebuild. It's a flat four and he's always telling me about it. If I ever do win the lottery one of the first things I buy will be a Jowett Javelin for Derek.
Actually - come to think of it - that Mini Cooper has fuel injection doesn't it?I'm in a similar situation. A mate of mine had a 1992 Mini Cooper which was in need of some loving. It used to have but somebody has removed all the SPi stuff and fitted it with a Carb.Actually - come to think of it - that Mini Cooper has fuel injection doesn't it?
Oh wellIt used to have but somebody has removed all the SPi stuff and fitted it with a Carb.
I thought megasquirt was supposed to be cheap?? I am sure you can get them for far less (especially if you build it yourself)?
Thanks but they're even more expensive. It really isn't worth the money at the moment - I'd rather save up for batteries and go electric!I bought a second hand Emerald K3 for a fraction of that with discs etc. Might be a better way forward? The Canems also looks good for the enthusiast if the megasquirt is no longer the affordable option it once was...
It was a strange occurrence.
Since I was a teenager I've always wanted one of these =>

In a way the Volvo is going to be the closest thing other than a Morris Minor I will be able to get in LHD form here in Holland. Damn shame the front nose of the Volvo is so blinking ugly.
I had no intention of buying a Volvo - however - I was shopping around for a MK1 Transit van!
Anyway - there's a chap who runs a business locally who deals in Italian cars - mainly old Lancias and Alfas. He's got a storage area next to my workshop area and was busy jiggling vehicle positions about trying to get to a Ferrari I think. I walked past the Volvo and jokingly asked if it was for sale.
(Mistake)
I had a feeling he'd want 10K for the thing so I thought I was safe. Turns out he wanted to get rid and made me a deal that I couldn't refuse.
If I'm lucky a bit of dull paint correction could easily double my money (there I've said it - it won't come true now! Damn you internet always tempting sod's law)
+1I fancy an electric build sometime. Maybe a kit car build... but that’s another tangent

Someone has done a Range Rover Classic... but yes, interesting ideaWell I encourage both of you to consider a series Land Rover as the perfect electric vehicle of the future!
Nice box section chassis into which many a battery can be hidden - both in the box section and within (making sure of a nice even weight distribution) - two sturdy axles which could be flipped upwards by 90 degrees onto which electric motors could be mounted...
...and I know it irritates the heck out of some but "it is just like Mechano" you know - so "easy" to do...

That model Volvo is a little reminiscent of a 1950. Buick shape I think.
