At least being a 2 the chassis should be a lot more solid than anything series 3 flavoured (had to do a heap more chassis work to my s3 FFR)

Once you chased the rust out of the bulkhead it's well worth it ;-)

Doors are coming off quite easily.

I assume flat head screwdrivers are a big point of discussion in the Series 2 world. (About as bad as rounded out Torx fasteners)

Impact driver (human powered, not air or leccy) and a selection of bits will be a good investment. Plus there's a good bit of weight to them so they are good for throwing at people who slag off Landys.

This is the one I have:
Amazon product

At the time we could only really get Sealey on the island so in a situation where you need it now you have to go with it. Have to say though it is actually pretty good and has stood up well to lots of use and abuse. The bits do chip/break perhaps a bit premature but they are easily replaced with a better brand.

Thanks for the impact driver tip. I do have such things but feel that with my series 2 I'd probably reach the other side of the vehicle pretty quickly. It is far too rusty for treatment like that! I'll post up some pictures in the next few days showing what's crumbly and gone.

Living in Holland until recently I've had a hard time trying to find reasonable quality tools. It always takes a bit of time to move away from "tourist" to someone with local knowledge. Have you discovered www.frost.co.uk yet? What they sell is more often than not quite pricey but the Eastwood stuff has been pretty nice "does exactly what it says on the tin" type stuff. POR15 rust preventative paint is also pretty good stuff. Whilst amazon has done wonders with making stuff available some of the tools are real poor quality. Didn't Sealey used to be the Machine Mart favorite / own brand?

It's all down to technique, I've seen screws going through glass removed with an impact driver. Old skool finesse with hand tools which is sadly dying out as generations pass. Yeah I've known of Frost for a long time, and yes they are pricey but some of their stock is worth it, most things can be found cheaper else where. I tend to focus more on the manufacturer rather than the distributor. Yeah I think there was some connection with Sealey and Machine Mart at one point but Clarke is MM's own brand now and has been for some time.

Yep I've probably got the two confused.

Toolstation (who have been in Holland for about 10 years now) seem to be championing SIP at the moment. I've got a SIP welding helmet that won't be replaced by them when needed...

Progress is slow (could be a theme of this thread) - picked up my engine crane from storage the other day and I thought about getting some shelves for bits...

...can't find my imperial socket set so bought a new fancy through hole socket set that grips on the flats and is good for metric and whatever...

Why are you fitting a tdi?
Because the 19j it was fitted with was a pile of steaming dog poo....
However even IF had still been a 2 1/4 in still be fitting a tdi...
The mileages it will be doing mean that late 30's to a gallon is a no brainer.
Nothing wrong with a 2 1/4 as such though my two FFR's will be staying as nature intended, but they won't be camping barges like the StaWag ;-)

Has any one ever tried to upgrade the injector pump and injectors to something more modern (in the hope of better performance and economy) on the original engines before?

I didn't get much time with the beast today so I only got the rear seats out and the back door off.

I tried to get the floors up and the front wings off but everything is rusted solid. So I need some time with an angle grinder I think...

...probably start with a cordless drill though as I don't have electrickery in my work place yet...

There was a knock at the door.

A tall bloke with a satchel handed me a box and walked off.

Inside the box =>

I think the guy was a Roman: He must have been a Roman - new discount courier service - he must have walked all the way from England to bring these books 'cos it took so bloody long for them to get here...

...now I'm gonna be really dangerous. Knowledge is power folks. Knowledge is power.

As the Americans say: "I'm all set".

Nothing much today except I got the Heritage Certificate on order and I bought some more penetrating oil in the Easter Monday sales!

It is finally beginning to smell like a nice Land Rover - all that MoS2...

Progress!

I got all the bloody doors off a few days ago (forgot to say). The two front doors have series 3 door tops (at the very least) so they have to go.
