lol.....just don't see the point in the bypass, your get slight increase in air flow.....but on a freelander it's not going to make any noticeable difference.

Fully agree , worth doing , more torque from 1200rpm , smoother engine running ,better throttle responce , prevents carbon build up in the intake system , more power (up to10bhp) reduction of black smoke under full accelaration , and clean the intake manifold and ports while your at it , see mings sticky , also my mpg seems to have improved on a run !From a short turm power gain point of view dumping the egr valve is of limited value. From the long term power retention point of view, removing or bypassing the egr is well worthwhile by stopping all that horrible sludge build up.

£3k isnt to bad for that car at your age - i'm 22 and mine came to £850 with 1 year n/c and advanced driving etc. I get charged extra due to been in the forces - reckon i'm some boy racer!
