surely on third party the likelihood of theft argument goes out of the window? I think it's more to do with insurance companies hiding behind these excuses and statistics as a way of charging young peoples parents thousands of pounds so that they can legally drive around just because they can

Its not the insurers (though they do need to make a profit as they are businesses afterall) but its the 'no-win no-fee' lawyers who have done this to us all. And the muppets who think to themselves, 'I've paid out enough insurance - I'm going to claim some back for this imaginary whiplash'.

'The EMB's annual analysis of the financial returns made by insurers to the Financial Services Authority, stated for every £1 motor insurers received in premiums, they paid out £1.22 in claims. This increase in claims costs is the key factor in the increased cost of motor insurance. The single biggest contributing factor to these claims is the increase in personal injury claims and the associated costs.'

Read...House of Commons - Transport Committee - Written Evidence

  • Currently for every £1 paid in compensation for smaller injury claims an additional 87 pence is paid in lawyers fees.
  • The ABI has stated that £41 from every motor insurance policy goes to the legal profession.

Try admiral Multi car m8!

I've had my 90 TD5 Defender 2000 since I well just short off 18!

With admiral on multi car with my saxo first year for the defender was £1400 @ pretty much 18

Then had another accident (wasn't my fault) second year it was £1300 @ 19

and last years insurance was £750 @ 20! with 2 accidents on.

Fully comp as well! £500 excess! and as I had 2 policys since I was 18 i have 2 sets of 1 years no claims!

The way around this slightly is basically buy a cheap very old car! insure it with your defender on with admiral as multi car! just let the small car sit sum wer! dunt have to tax it etc.. longs as it insured and drive the defender!

For this year insurance @ 21 im looking around £500-£600!

Fookin insurance scammer:mad::mad::mad: This is why insurance is so high bastid . Hope the insurance man that is on here and burns you for fraud:mad:

This is not why insurance rates are so high. I am not advocating it..simply trying to put things into perspective.

Insurance rates are very high because insurance companies now have access to much more detailed information and statistics than they have ever had before. They are able to ascertain whether certain groups of people are more or less likely to have an accident. Young drivers are very likely to have an accident in their first year of driving... the reasons are manyfold... but largely fall into the two areas of ineffective driver training and insufficient experience. Young drivers are usually unaware of their vehicle's capabilities and not adequately trained to get out of trouble once they get into it...ergo they are a higher risk...

In the same way that if you put a yank and a brit soldier into a battle zone... the yank is statistically more likely to shoot the brit than the enemy...

However... Insurance rates for vehicles are at an all time high. As a previous poster said... this is thanks to the no win no fee culture imported from the compensation culture prevalent in the USA.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. Its not a scam, he's paying insurance for two vehicles. Its the best way to accrue a years no claims bonus.

right. that info has been gathered since the late 60's here and continues. But the other is the phony claims for whip lash etc. and now you have those no fee if you don't win lawyers. Just wait and see where your insurance rates are headed 2000 quid for insurance with 500 deductible and no accidents or tickets since 1970:D

As said before I currently have 2 cars 1 astra and 1 defender!

I simply drive the astra for fuel economy and the defender at the weekends!

So how is that a scam? like what was said before you paying for 2 cars so there is no scam?

I'm agreeing with you mate..its Fur Trapper thats a gonad.

I'm currently waiting for a quote from Graham Sykes. Lets see if they can beat the main-stream companies who want £900...

Stay tuned! They said they will get back to me soon... :)

My eldest is nearing 17 and she is going to get a 90 (although I would prefer her to have a series 3 as they are even cheaper to insure) and with the misses as a named driver, go compare comes in at £1100 for the first year (£998 for a series 3). The way I see it is that she will have a sound vehicle which she can learn a lot from (in terms of general maintenance) and less chance of having a prang, and if she did the other party would be in a worse condition! Guess what her b'day present will be until she is in full time employment?

Still a rip off for young'ens.

That sounds good, What company was that with from Go compare? And it was with somone as a named driver? and is it the 200tdi you got the quote for?
