Doesn't seem possible, caravan a lot lighter than the 110 so it wouldn't push the back end about, maybe he had soft tyres on the 110 and it got a sway on and he did something stupid, hard to say really:confused:

Welcome btw, and you should be in introduce yourself first off

Had a massive snake on the D2 last time we towed the tin tent after a Merc sprinter went past. Only doing about 55 mph with correct nose weight and it was very frightening. Don't want this to happen again.

Luckily for the driver of this 110 all passengers were OK :)

The best towing car is a Volvo estate, low and heavy, 4x4s with a high centre of gravity don't make good towing vehicles, once a caravan starts swaying it doesn't take much to turn a 4x4 over , driving 80k a year I've seen loads of matchwood caravans, the cars usually end up with their arse stuck in the air, 4x4s are upside down

Not all but some caravans are not soposed to be towed by 4x4's i know back in the 80's / 90's swift caravans used to state that as my dad once was going to buy a new van from them at one of the earls court caravan shows and asked my dad what car will you be towing it with and he replied a land rover and sales guy said we don't advise our caravans to be towed by 4x4's and ended up buying a tabbart instead

there's a comment under the article from the actual driver of the 110 telling all what actually happened, glad to say the family are all ok :)

I believe that was originally due to the relatively new designed Alko caravan chassis of the time - if you reversed them on soft ground the 4x4's had the traction but the caravan wheels would dig in and the Alko chassis twist!

A 4 year old girl suffered serious head injuries , a 4 year old girl should be strapped in a seat like a rally car driver , that shouldn't go anywhere even if the car is upside down

Of course - but you try telling a four year old not to pull her hands out of the straps. Car seats were fitted...and were used! They were last seen heading for forensic examination.

The article doesn't say she wasn't strapped in only that she had a fractured skull. It could have been loose articles in the cabin flying around during the crash that struck her.

Sad all the same
