Ford Escort wrote off stood still .....

Terraced house, Roof full of snow, slippy slip, car roof touching car floor ... ;)

Fortunately we weren't in it at the time, we'd got out about two minutes earlier. Next door neighbours window was put through, we think by our windscreen glass exploding out!

Had pictures but it was a long time ago, so a few house moves later we can't find them now.

Well i am little worried about rusty chassis on the defs, does any of u know how much it may set me back to have it wax oild or other treatments?

and i have seen the green landy but 172000 miles or whatever it has done is a lot. Isnt it?

If i had a garage i would keep it and try and fix it more or less myself...
dont have a garage nor do i have a time so will have to have it fixed or depending on how much the insurance offer will be may buy a new one...

i went to help a mate today whos transit tipper suffered a collapsed off side ball joint. i phoned another mate who does police and insurance recoveries, repairs, MOT,s ect ect and we was chattin about recovery.
i asked him if he recovered any land rovers and if they had to be disposed of could they be bought. what he told me made me sick. he said he had recovered 6 land rover discoveries in the two months before xmas along with a whole range of vans, sprinters transits vw ect also vw cars audi, bmw, volvo, merc ect ect.
every one has to be drained of fluids, batteries and tyres then they are taken to a registered depot where they are put into a machine that fragments them into ten pence sized peices, and not even a wheel nut can be taken off the vehicle. he was telling me about a merc he recovered, one owner from new all the extras, stainless exhaust alloys ect and after the fluid drain it went to be destroyed, he said he was gutted to see such a car have to be destroyed in this way. 6 discos have left this world going through this shredder, i felt sick.
it seems a total waste to me but thats the rules if he wants to keep his insurance and police contracts. gutting aint it ?

Same with un-taxed motors and stuff... They're crushed, regardless of value. So wasteful it's sickening. Why not send them off to auction and stick the money back into the system or do something useful with it?

And if the shredders are still hungry for things to munch up then we can always feed them some speed cameras instead. :)

The police built a christmas tree outta cubed seized cars in Bristol city centre.:p

Hi there, I am from wilmslow cheshire.

Well i guess that i will be looking for new one. The insurance company will not insure a write off anyway, and i think i may have a problem insuring it alswhere as well.

once its back on the road its fine normally. May need a VIC check.

What are the insurers asking to buy it back? I may consider it meself, ill buy it off you maybe?

course not, they know what they can get for it if they fix it and sell it on.

you gotta pester them, dnt wait for them to ring you cos they WILL 'forget'...

I have to be honest, i really hate insurance companies in general, cos they are all schemeing bastards.

But, if you are persistent you should get somewhere.

I would also consider not accepting the slvage price they give you but make them a lower offer, they may stil accept it.

but yeah, let me know what they say, i may be interested :)
