Cheers guys,

Now, i would be a little worried about these utility vehicles, how big of the job is it to get the chassis wax oild and perhaps cleaned of some rust?

As well as that how many miles can i expect from well mainteined engine?

I am not a landrover ovner, but i fell in love with it a vhile ago and since i bought the one that is getting written off a dont realy want anything else.

I was after another 300tdi. I didn't want a TD5 cos I hate engine management systems.

At £3500 I couldn't say no.

Hard tops like I say are not worth as much. The landy I had previous was a 300tdi Hard top. I bought it cos I couldn't afford a station wagon at the time. When some scrote tried to nick it and set light to it (june last year) I got £3300 from the insurance company.

What you see is the replacement vehicle (bought july last year) It had some niggles when I first got it but it's getting there.
 
Just to explain, there wasnt a verdict over the vehicle from the insurers yet, but with the cost of repair of 8000 it is total loss.
I want for the truck to be taken to LR specialist in Bollington, Macclesfield as i cant see that damage to cost 8000 to repair. However i have spoken to insurers and they do intent to write off the vehicle if thge cost of repair is more then 65% of the value of the vehicle.

Does any of you guys know do i have a right to get the second opinnion on that repair???

Yes you do, and you have the right to have it repaired where you want it done too,,,

i have been down this road myself and know the score.

but the robbing bastards will tell you anything but
 
remember the insurers only want to make money outta you, in one way or another.

If there are no third party claims, i would consider trying to completely retract the claim, and then get some opinions of getting the work done youself - i rekon, if you tried and are handy with a spanner, you could fix it for pittance - espechailly if you can deal with odd coloured panels for a while, etc.
 
The problem is without seeing it and checking it over correclty the chassis maybe damaged, axle, braking system even seen a gearbox wrenched out and a hole in the bellhousing after a minor crash once. The Bill can quite easily add up.

I say this although if you really didnt care about it you can bodge it.

I mean to get the work to a new standard or near new standard without any short cuts or bodges it may not be worth the effort or cost when you can get td5's so cheap.

After the insurers ave paid out you can buy the old one back.So get another td5, and ye old one to fix up.Then sell the one you like least or keep em both.Or give me one of em fer nowt.

It just means that it has been jacked up using the jacking hole. Either the flimsy strenghthening strip above the jacking hole is rusted or the vehicle was fully laden at the time. It will mean rust will soon start to show unless treated though.
 
ha when I saw this thread on the defender page, I thought that this meant the end of nellys landy!couldnt believe that SOMEONE else has written his landy off!must be nelly surely!
