Great, that's one more thing out of the way.

Now got a nasty wire chop behind the convoy switch to sort out and I'm no sparks.

Any clues what these wires are, especially the shorted out connector?

The colour of the wires should tell you what job they do. Has your 6-position light switch has been bypassed?

The 3x brown double bullet females are permanent live / output from the fuse box - but check with your DVM. The green-brown [purple?] link is non-std, what colour wires are on the connector input?

Suggest getting both Haynes and Workshop Manual for wiring diagrams. MOD Landy wiring is not too different from Civvy Landies. All that mud/crud on your wiring will can be cleaned with a good dose of WD40 and a rag

eta: whatever you do don't chop any wires, far better to thoroughly clean and inspect, then work out where the wires go.

note: most MOD Landies have spare brown wires behind the centre dash/rotary light pod - I've used my spares for a cigar lighter, twin USB port and a flexible map reading lamp

I was thinking the connector may be a replacement for the RIST convoy connector

Part of the convoy switch works, part does not. I'll look again when I get home. There is a broken wire in the fuse box, supposedly the passing light and horn feed - does that sound correct?

What colour is the broken wire?

Genuine Q...do you have a DVM [digital volt meter] and know how to buzz out wires/electrical ccts for continuity/volts/measure resistance/current? If not, buy a DVM and learn how to do this, it's a much needed skill with car wiring. Really recommend the Haynes car electrical manual

and something like this

The best thing with these books is that one can learn each of the techniques live on your Landy without doing much harm. Just don't short out your ignition/starter ccts to ground whilst trying to start the engine as you'll get a big surprise!

Is the Workshop manual a single volume? I've seen online downloads in 5 parts and a "Repair" manual is separate again.

Genuine Q...do you have a DVM [digital volt meter] and know how to buzz out wires/electrical ccts for continuity/volts/measure resistance/current? If not, buy a DVM and learn how to do this, it's a much needed skill with car wiring. Really recommend the Haynes car electrical manual

I do have a meter, or AVO, as I knew them, so I'll get that Haynes as well.

I opened the fuse box and the broken wire is purple, as per this pic. Where ought that to be attached and is it a bayonet fitting?

Purple = Horn, Clock, sometimes cigar lighter [this can also be brown], interior light, horn and hazards. Is there a broken purple wire on the output of any of the fuses?

Pulled the small fuse holder and there is no obvious missing connection into a fuse, but there are two spliced wires and half of Somalia in there:

That's mess, typical Landy wiring. I'd be inclined to thoroughly clean and inspect all wiring, and then trace and note all the wires to their points of use...then replace the bodged wiring with fresh correctly coloured wires.
