My e-mil 2A from 1970 has the rubber door stops in the wings, they press into the hole. They are the same as the S1 door stops and you can still get them, £8 for a pair:

Bear in mind these were driven by squaddies, probably many driving for the first time and the Army made a point that they could teach anyone to drive in a day so expect a lot of early crash repairs. My footwells are riveted in with solid rivets, almost certainly an Army fix. Its very likley yours had new wings within a year or two of being made. The Army were never fussy about orginality and it would have got the next ones out the stores.
