The alarm on My 2001 Freelander 2.5V6 keeps going off - usualy about 5 to ten minutes after locking it!. Its driving me nuts -

Problem started early one very frosty morning last week - and hasnt gone away since.

Does it unlock the car when doing it?

Has the button in the key fob been pressed in? If it stays in, it will set off the alarm as a panic alarm. Try taing the battery out.

do you have probs with the rear window opening?
do yu keep the keys in ya trews?

if you do - just keep the keys somewhere else.

shirley - if the batts removed - it will need to be re-synced?

To re-sync after the fob battery is removed, just put it back in and press one of the buttons 5 times quickly on each fob, to re-sync each fob. Same thing when you disconnect the battery under the bonnet.

Will only work with a fob which was previously working with your Freelander.

does it ? which version of freelander is that on ? why is not in the manual ? would that be the lock button then, as holding down the unlock button for 2 secs lowers the tailgate glass ?

as an aside, might be worth checking the main battery (i.e. under bonnet), especially if the problem has started in the very cold weather, as they become very sluggish when cold. What happens is the voltage drops, and the alarm ecu sees this as a system tamper and starts the alarm. just a thought, has been covered on here before.

might also be worth checking for anything moving inside the vehicle, e.g. inertia reel seatbelts.

good luck

I should add that mine did it when the territory settings were Japanese. When reprogramming to English territory (at the main dealer) the panic function stopped. Like Jap spec FL’s don’t have a volume sensor in the roof for the alarm either.

I’m not sure if it’s a territory only setting, or something like the auto door lock when you drive off, which is switchable onable offable in the computer. Mine hasn’t got the rear window drop enabled.

Ok folks - thanks for the advice - It ain't the keyfob and it ain't the battery - battery is newish. Found out now that if I lock the car with the key - it doesnt happen so this has got to be something different about the alarm setting when set with the remote?

Difference between key and fob locking is the volume sensing isn’t activated. Also when using the fob, it super locks the doors. You have to turn the key twice quickly to do this, when locking wit the key. Only turning once doesn’t super lock.

Volume sensor is in the roof, behind the sunroof. When alarmed with the fob, it waits 20 seconds before monitoring the inside of the car. Any change in monitored value after this sets off the alarm. Eg when breaking a window.

It seems to have fixed itself now - so wont worry until it starts playing up again - but thanks all.
