Am i being a fool to think that my 2004 HSE td4 has a pre heater?? The reason i ask is that my friends has been sent into over drive over the last few weeks due to the resent cold weather however not a peep from mine. Ive peered under the n/s to spy the small exhaust poking out-check, but it never seems to puff out any exhaust gases?
Was it a dealer option? or is mine fooked? I have never seen it work in the 18 months that ive had the car, Never really thought about it to be fair?

Thoughts greatly recieved

Hi Paul,

If you can't find (see) such little exhaustpipe coming out in front of the car I'm afraid you haven't got one. See the 2 pics under slightly different angle. (Just went to the garage to take them for u:cool:)

If you've got a fuel burning heater and it isn't working pulling fuse 5 from the engine compartment fusebox for a few seconds may reset its ecu. If that doesn't sort it then it's likely to be a faulty outside temperature sender...

Yeah but the lad says he cant even see the exhaust pipe, as its a diesel would he definately have one? mine comes on everytime this time of year and sounds like a f15 revving up.

My neighbour has a MY05 Td4 Sport and hasn't got one either. I have one as I guess this was standard for the first year the Td4 came out ? (Mine was delivered on january 9th 2001) I was not aware I had such thing as nothing ordered nor mentioned anywhere, was also surprised by the funny noise it made and afterwards found out what it was via the LR forums.

I don't think they were standard as there are plenty without. I read somewhere about a Cold Climate pack including heated screen, heated seats, and either FBH or PTC heater.

nah, I think he said he's got the exhaust but nowt comes out...

yeah got the exhaust just doesn't seem to do anything. As for the cold climate pack i've got the heated screen and heated seats. I think i'll try the fuse idea i'm sure there will plenty more cold mornings to give it chance to work.

Believe it or not the bumper removal is only a 10-15min job, when you get it off remove the plug from the temp sender and insert a paper clip into the plug, start the engine and see if the FBH fires up.

I didn't remove my bumper completely, just released it at the drivers side and under the front and it moved enough to gain access. Saved dropping it on the floor, tripping over it or scratching it. :)

hi, where abouts is this temp sensor located? just realised my pre heater doesnt work!

FYI the FBH was only featured on the TD4. However, they stopped fitting them as from MY02 onwards.

FBH was still fitted on Td4 SE models and above in 2005 and eventually dropped in favour of the PTC heater except for cold climates.

fbh and heated windscreens were fitted until july 05 thats why you see some 05 or 55 with them fitted from july 05 they were a optional extra
