Hi does anybody know how to adjust handbrake on a disco2?. Can't see any ways of doing it without taking drum off

If it's anything like the D1 you can lift the gaiter and turn the plastic screw for a wee bit of adjustment. Where the handbrake cable passes through the mounting plate for the lever.

I Saw a black plastic wheel under the lever. The cable runs through the middle of it

Handbrake

Check
1. Apply the handbrake lever 3 notches on the
ratchet. The handbrake should be fully
operational.
2. If the handbrake is not fully operational, the
brake shoes and/or the handbrake cable need
adjusting.
Adjust
1. Raise rear of vehicle.
WARNING: Do not work on or under a
vehicle supported only by a jack. Always
support the vehicle on safety stands.
2. Ensure handbrake lever is fully released.
3. Tighten brake shoe adjusting bolt until brake
drum is locked, then back off adjusting bolt 1.5
turns. Check that the brake drum is free to
rotate.
4. Recheck handbrake operation.If handbrake is
not fully applied with 3 notches on the
ratchet, the handbrake cable requires
adjustment.
5. Remove switch panel from centre console.
+WINDOWS, REPAIRS, Switch -
console.
6. Release handbrake lever gaiter from centre
console.
7. Rotate adjuster anti-clockwise to increase
cable tension (reduce notches) or clockwise to
decrease cable tension (increase notches).
8. Recheck handbrake operation.
9. Secure handbrake lever gaiter to centre
console.
10. Fit switch panel to centre console.
+WINDOWS, REPAIRS, Switch -
console.
11. Remove stand(s) and lower vehicle.
Sorry but I cant copy the pictures. The brake shoe adjusting bolt (step3) appears to be at the bottom of the drum on the opposite side to the prop shaft.
The adjuster (step 7) looks to pass through the plate securing the handbrake to the car floor.

Yep the cable comes through a threaded metal/plastic shielded thing like the cable on a bike. In fact that's exactly what it's like the brake lever on a mountain bike. The plastic wheel allows for some adjustment.

get on your back underneath look at the back of the drum at the bottom you will see the adjuster nut chock the front wheels jack 1 wheel at the back up and adjust away

If your motor is fitted with 18" wheels you dont need to jack it up to get underneath.

Lads im having the same issue with my 2003 auto disco 2, handbrake cable up full whack and the disco starts to slowly move down hill... im relying on the park position through the box.
Is it the same on my disco just adjust in behind the switch mounting plate?

17mm socket onto the back of the brake drum
If its slipping rear seal of the transfer box might be duff and oul has contaminated the shoes

fos simply adjust it pfrovided the shoes are not completely worn that's the method

If you have a later model the cable adjustment is underneath the vehicle. You'll see the adjusting nuts where the cable comes out. A bit awkward to get to but hold one with spanner whilst taking up the slack.

Another question (though not handbrake related) the ABS sensors on each wheel..... do they operate on a resistance value reference back to the SLABS? or is it a simple NO/NC circuit??

they are inductive(Hall) sensors, they are sending back to ECU a variable AC(sine wave) voltage induced by the reluctor ring in the sensor's winding depending on the wheel's rotation speed.. only on self test the ECU sends a referrence voltage to them to check the coil

Ahhhh...... So as a quick hide the 3 amigos for my impending MOT at the end of this month until i can source the OEM part and replace could you then link it out at the SLABS ECU or on the sensor lead going back to the ECU?
I was gonna do it on Monday when im off next.
