Hi all,

Could anyone tell me what electronic units are behind the glove box on a 95 disco 300TDI ES.

got them wet and now the immobiliser isnt working nor the central locking,

however the electric windows and wipers with intermittent function are all working fine.

What box/es carry out these functions? - immobiiser - central locking

Also what does the ECU actually do on a 300TDI?

Thanks :p

You have probably got the "spider" wet. This controls the items you having problems with. You can get a landrover part for a few quid. This allows you to remove the unreliable spider unit. You may have got other electronis wet also but i reckon it'll be the spider.

cheers for replys guys.

its the single button type fob.

how do i tell what type of ECU it is? take it out and look or can i tell with it in there?

This spider you speak of... is it a component individually within a unit or does a whole unit need to be changed? also is it actually called a spider?

if so could u give a brief description of said spider unit so i could try and source a replacement.

This tool to remove the spider, is it 100% needed or is there an alternative way to remove?

Many thanks

OK black box behind and to the side of the glove box easly identified it has a antenna coax plug pluged into it, on single button fobs the alarm ecu also combinds the c/locking, unlike the 2 button which has two ecu modules.
For the spider not the official name but because of all the wires coming from it (spider) and if someone has already been there it may be a (birds nest) :) There's a bypass for the spider see link.

For info on the spider look at this well written link. The Definitive Alarm Spider Post - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

had a little read of that link, makes more sense now, most appealing solution to me seems the 'yellow wire link the inputs to the outputs' method...
but was thinking that surely you could just find the other end of those inputs/outputs:
-the 2nd keyswitch position feed bridged across to the fuel cut off solenoid.
-3rd keyswitch position(start) to the starter relay coill.

Am i correct in thinking this (albeit 'a bodge') this would work and could be a permanent solution without having to dismantle the whole dash and done neatly and solder would be reliable too?

So then if i replaced the central locking unit (or dryed this one) the disco should be for all usable purpose back to how it should... (usable lol).

Cheers:p

Couple of bits.

I have now the engine starting and stopping as it should. imobiliser still not working though - the hazards are all steady on.
Traced the feed and found that removing the Headlight washer fuse, the hazards went from steady on to normal operation - indicators and hazards all correct... odd? could that have been feeding/false feeding the alarm?

So are is the central locking and alarm in one unit and the spider is the unit is the imobiliser? is that correct?

I cant seem to find it... does anyone have a picture of where the central locking unit is? would be much appreciated :) :)

Thanks :)

Single button fob, the alarm and CL are one unit, has a coax plug pluged into it.
Two button fob, the alarm and Cl are seperate units, alarm is green CL is black similar size boxes.
Immobilisation is controled buy the alarm.
All are positioned behind and to the left of the glove box.
